Hi all,
Picked up a 1600 yesterday to replace my tired out 1300. Just wondering couple of things
1600 was on auto box so no flywheel, will the 1300 one fit the 1600 engine? are they the same?
Is the dizzy, and waterpump the same on 1300 and 1600 does anyone know.
Use the car most days, so ideally want to swap engines over without getting it all apart and realising i need more bits
Any help much appreciated

Im not 100% on the differences but as far as I know the only real difference is that the 1600 is slightly taller than the 1300

MOST IMPORTANTLY dont forget to fit a spogot bearing to the autos crank shaft
.I assume the 1600 has a sump with pan on rear.(not cortina II on front). 1300 flywheel and clutch will be fine if its 6 bolt pressure plate (3 bolt pressure  plate wont last long with extra torque). water pump and dizzy will also be ok to swap over. The only issue may be (as Neale said ) 1600 is just over an inch taller and the exhaust down pipe  will be closer to the floor, you may even have to adjust it with a big hammer. When are the twin 40s going on?

It depends what the 1600 is out of. If it's a Mk2 Escort you will be right to use the 1600 sump. If it's out of a Cortina (oil pan at front) don't just bolt your old 1300 sump up to the 1600. The latter has longer stroke and the rods will bang on the side of the 1300 sump. You can either buy a sump off a 1600 Escort or mark out where the rods would come into contact with the sump and do a bit of panel beating.

Cheers guys awesome info, yes it was out of a tina, so tracking a sump now, will i need oil pick up pipe too does anyone know?.
Is not the engine fitted with a spigot bearing on crank already, sorry for my lack of knowledge dont know much about autos. The thin plate that bolts to converter thing has 6 bolts so think that should be ok to fix flywheel too.
 

You can modify the 1300 pick up away from crank throw, but if you can get the 1600 pick up, I would, cos it’s a pain taking the sump off again and again when to hear that unmistakable tap tap when it’s running, even though it did clear when you turned it over by hand.
Take the flex plate off the crank and fit the 1300 flywheel. If there is  a spigot bearing in the crank then it wasn’t originally an auto engine. But change it any way cos it’s been rusting since the auto was fitted.
