hi eveyone
i just put my twin dellorto 40s on my 1600 in my van got them running. after trying to tune them with a manometer  i worked that number 1 is missing due to the pcv hose being connected to were the booster connects up cause im running a pedal box and have that port spare. it sounds lik the cars pinning but when i block the vaccum port of at idle it sounds good anyway im asking what to do as i dont want to run a oil catch and im cramped for space already. was thinking of drilling out the pcv and running a pipe from the oil seperator straight to the oil filler cap or drilling out the pvc and running a hose with filter straight into the atmostspere. anyway any advice is welcome

I use the pipe to atmosphere, with pcv opened permanently, see "smoke from rocker cover " post  by Brandon C.

There's no easy way around that one. You're gonna get fumes and plenty of em if you don't connect the PCV to the intake manifold. I'm still not sure why it's running odd with the PCV connected to the intake manifold? At idle the PCV valve is providing the most (but not complete) restriction.
Take out the PCV valve, rinse it in some turps and give it a shake to hear the rattle. If you can't hear anything rattling the valve might be stuffed.

You cant run the PCV to the manifold with twins as the vacuum is WAY too much and it will also pulse suck due to it only drawing from 1 cylinder. A single carb manifold balances this vacuum draw across all 4 cylinders.  Having it connected to just one it will cause it to run lean on that cyinder.  As Hendo said run the PCV hose to a catch can and you wont have an issue.

Hmmm, that's interesting. Sorry to hijack, but I'm using a lynx single sidedraft manifold. It's a crossover design so one pair of runners goes to cyl 1 & 4, and the other pair go to cyl 2 & 3. The vacuum barb is on cyl 2 & 3, so wouldn't that pulse suck aswell? I have checked my plugs on a number of occasions and that healthy brown colour is consistant across all 4 cylinders.
