Hi guys,

Just bought some new oil, water & volt gauges and i wanna put them in my MKII Escort, just want some ideas where to put them or how any of you guys mounted them. Where the ash tray is would be good, but just wanted some tips on how to make it look plush etc.

Cheers Rhys

Hey Rhys. I've mounted my gauges where the ash tray was. I used the angled spacers so they can be seen easier from the driving position, i covered the whole thing with black material which covers any unsightly bits. I'll ask my cousin, he's an upholsterer, what the material is because it can be stretched and shaped really easily, I've done my door cards, home made centre console and all the boards in the back (no back seat).
When i get home in a couple of weeks i'll take some photo's and post em on. I have to take some photo's of the seat mounts in my Cortina for Matt75 too.
You may need to be patient but i'll get em on here.
Cheers, Richo.

Thanks mate, i was having a look today to see if i could mount them without cutting into the ash tray by using the metal bezel it came with but i think ill have to cut into it and use the bezel to hold them in straight
Im not sure, ill wait and see for the pics.

Cheers

Hey Bud, I can't really remember if, or how i strengthened behind to support the gauges, probably blu-tac and sticky tape.
S'all good though, when i take the photo's i'll just remove the console and have a look, oh and take a few shots.
I remember trying to use the metal bit and mount them in the same area without cutting but it was gonna be more hassle than it was worth, and I'm really happy with the way it turned out. If you don't want to cut good interior parts, try and find and old sh%#ty one to cut and then cover it, keeping your good one aside.

Cheers, Richo.

How about making you're own console? Complete with VDO gauges just arrived from the States. Me very happy. [:p]

Because im not that smart or handy lol, that looks amazing. Do you think 3 gauges would fit?

The previous version had 3 gauges in a triangle with no radio. The best thing is you can make it how you like it. It's made out of MDF so it's actually quite easy. Just requires time. Cheers

you could get 2 of them to hang below the dash in cups just by the park brake light.
