I'm sure i'm not the only one waiting to know, so i will ask... If you don't mind what did ya pay?

When i went looking i couldn't find a blacktop let alone a ST170.
Will be a wild car =]

Depends on how much other gear I can offload! Check out Parts for sale.
The price was $1450, not mega cheap but, when you consider
1, how hard they are to find
2, improvements over standard zetec like,
stronger rods,
better flowing re cast head
bigger intake valves
stiffer springs
more radical cam profile
higher redline
better torque curve due VCT
intake manifold ready for Quads.
I think you'd be hard pressed to build a zetec for the money with the same spec or performance.

Way to go mate !!, i'd ditch the variable cam wheel in favor of std type, less hassles.
Ha,, that makes 243 ST170s left in Aust !
Get the front seats too, they're electricly height adjustable.

I'll be looking at keeping the VCT and switch it using a Megajolt setup. from what i've read turn it on between 2-4000 rpm.
what's the prog on your mates st170? is it running?

I had read all the uk sites about VCT, and they seem to say that just switching it on and off isnt worth it. Getting an ECU thats able to handle the VCT seems the best option if you really want it.

I'm of the understanding (limited admittedly) it is just switched ie on or off and oil pressure, engine load and rpm do the rest. But if thats wrong and if I was smart, I could get the mega jolt to talk to it, using its multiple outputs for rpm and load (mine has 4 outputs)which could be setup to mimic ecu inputs to the solenoid. OR just thinking out load, I could just use the one mega jolt output to switch it at a certain rpm/load bin. Still learning on this topic.
Interesting thread here.

Well it has started, the stripdown of the ST170, just the outside bits, I have no intention of mucking with its internals, I will upload some pics, 1 thing to note is one of them void is removed discs on the back of the head, means it might have had a freshen up during its life, good or bad I dont know. I plan to detail the work to give a good idea of what's required to do the conversion.
