I started building my original mk1 years ago for the street but I have now decided to go racing. My original shell was a bit to nice to go and get hit by something. So I have decide to build my yellow mk1 work hack into a track car and basically run in as many outings as I can so here is how it starts out.

Plans are Cossie,Caged,Fibreglass Arches and eventually 4 Link with watts link but I have a real bad habit of changing my mind any advice will gladly be taken on board

My advice would be a new paint job. [:p]

Sounds likes it going to be a nice track car.

Looks like a very nice base to start from. What class do you want to run in or are you just thinking of trackdays?

I would be interested in some interior parts that you may want to discard for racing purposes. Please PM me if you are planning to get rid of anything. Cheers,

Cam

Just been doing some thinking, what's peoples opinion on seam welding.
Is it a case of if its going on the track so it must be done or is it personal preference.
Mud, I will be getting into the street car racing class but trackdays to start with.

I seam welded and gusseted my Mk2 rally car but didn't bother when I built my Capri supersprint/hill climb car (as per avatar). I'd just go with a decent cage and strut brace etc unless your going all out to win titles.

That was my thinking aswell and it saves me some time to get rid of rust that I keep finding

Can you get 225/50 15s under standard rear arches that have had the lip rolled.

I remember having 205/50/15s on the back with the guard lip trimmed, with room to spare. The car was really low, i guess ride height will determine tyre size somewhat too. This was on a 4 door mk1 though... cool project too!

Cheers for that. Im limited to 7" rims in the class I want to compete in, so trying to find out if I can get away with out going the bubble arched route but I think im going to need as much rubber as possible underneath.
