I'm thinking chilli has a early mk2 rear loom and a late mk2 loom with his complaining (not really mate) that one goes down the left side and the other to the right.
The two plugs right at the back are possibly for the number plate lamps.

Best way to test the loom is lay it on a board and power it up, test light or use actual parts like switches, dash, taillights etc if it makes things easier.. Good luck with it, I hate wiring, would rather weld in 45deg heat than electrics...

Marty, I have come to that conclusion too. I like the routing of the older loom better TBH. I'll power up the rear and buzz out the connections. Feeling inspired if not capable ;-)
