I was using glasurit weld thru primer, it's a red colour but have also tested regular rattle can primers as weld thru, obviously not spraying gallons on, just a sprinkle so the MIG can create arc contact, then as soon as it's cool enough I spray it with regular primer or epoxy to seal it from rust.
If you need any Tig insider's feel free to ask, I've been tigging a fair bunch recently, like the ally battery box etc

If you head back there can you please check if there is an ignition switch in that MK2 Shell?

Having had 3 things dug out of my eyes and the ophthalmologist telling me (politely) to smarten up, I don't go near any metal working gear without eye safety of some description. Oh, and they charge nearly as much as an eye is worth.
 
I use the Cam Weld, weld thru primer, works well, and have been using a Unimig Viper 182 for a few years now. Really happy with its versatility.

I'm heading straight past in a few weeks on a family holiday. Much to the families amusement, I'm planning on stopping by to grab a couple of little things.

From memory, they were pretty stripped however 'll have a look for you.

The frustrating thing for me is that I was using PPE. Had gloves, ears and eyes on, (I do need to be better at wearing a mask)... I'm more than aware of the consequences due to my day job.....

Have since swapped out the safety sunglasses style goggles for the full sealed mask type.

Thanks, will use of the Zinc based spray primer I have then. Might have to ask at the local paint shop, see what they recommend as they're a pretty helpful lot.

Will definitely hit you up for some tig advice later on.

Having worked at gmh fabrication plant for my first 3yrs, there's plenty of sparks bouncing around. The worst eye injury was while spots welding the rear galv chassis leg to the riser beam, some big current to connect 3mm to 3mm galv and sparks were like lava at 100mph, leather apron burnt in 3hrs. We had full face shields and safety eyes but the occasional rouge blob would burn thru both and enter into the eye , ultimate pain instantly, then it's straight to the in-house medical ward where they used a magnet to suck the bearings out and use needles etc. We learned to twist away while sparks fly. Some sparks would travel nearly 50mtr over other work areas. Good times..

I'm going to a paint shop tomorrow if I can squeeze it in, if I remember I'll ask as well about weld thru primer .

My hassle is stopping and eyeprotection from fogging up with a dust mask on, particularly when welding.
 
Wearing the full face 3M mask is good, but a pain too for most jobs.
And apparently welding (Tig or Mig) is bad if your doing stainless, due to the chrome content.
So I might need to add a order for suitable welding filters.
 

Deano to stop the foggy safety eyes is to drill a tiny hole in them near the bottom sides, it helps vents the foggy away. Or buy those AliExpress full facers with a filter at the chin. I bought a few and actually are ok . As for fumes I'd be more worried about breathing in the aroma from the missos cosmetic draw in the dresser !!
