Can you buy replacement wheel arches from the likes of Magnum for these?

You can by mk2 cortina panels from expressed panels, however I managed to buy a whole car here locally for less the cost of one replacement outer guard section.... I think I put some of the pocs up earlier in the thread.

It's alive!!!

After 11 months of tinkering here and there, I finally took the 'Rusty Wagon' for its first drive today, the first in over 25 yrs?
All mechanicals have now been either rebuilt or replaced.

Has a slight rear gearbox seal and inlet manifold leak to be taken care of, however other than that, all seemed OK.

Managed to achieve my goal of having all the mechanicals done within a year.

To say I'm happy in an understatement.

For such a rare car here in Oz, it was definitely worth saving.

I'll update the post with a few more pics, just had to share the good news.

Hopefully (fingers and toes well and truly crossed) the only thing i should have dramas with the RWC is wheel/tyre combo and front coilovers. I have standard sets of both items that can be swapped out after the initial inspection if needed.....
 
Everything else is as it left the factory (rear shocks excluded however originals are obsolete)
 
All suspension bushings, flexi brake line, discs, pads, front windscreen etc are new. Engine/diff/gearbox are either rebuilt or have new gaskets so no leaks etc.
 
Basically, the running gear underneath the car is mint. (I was very tempted to strip and clean the underneath, however sanity prevailed)
 
I am being hopeful, very hopeful, however time will tell.

My goals were 12 months for the mechanicals, 6 months for the body.
 
So I might be a little while yet!
 
Aim is to have the car at Small ford Sunday in 2025.

that's a good dealine, gives you a few months to tinker.
 
I would have liked to take the Capri when it was at Williamstown, but it probably doesnt get driven enough to get there and back. :)
 
I don't think the van will be ready for Feb thats for sure...

Great work getting it done in under twelve months, I'm exhausted just reading the thread
The patina look cars are starting to grow on me, I reckon this one looks just right. Love the sedan too, the stance and hubcaps on that are unreal.
Good luck with the roadworthy, but it sounds like you'll be alright if you have original bits to change out to in case they don't like the mods. 
Not sure what its like over there but here its always a crapshoot as to whether the inspectors in a good mood or sympathetic to older cars.

After the initial drive and excitement, and having parked it back in the shed I've now been working come to the realisation that the next major job is the rust repairs.

Tomorrow I'll lay everything out and double check what I have/need and then the process of unpicking the bits I need from the donor sections can begin.

The only mechanical parts still to do are the heater tap (yet to arrive, heater hose is in a loop), the inlet manifold leak and the gearbox seal to fit.

Still not sure what I'll do with the body. Want to leave it with some of the patina, just not sure what finish to have.

Cut and polish, clear matt or a semi gloss over the top.

I switch between loving and hating the bonnet, it is certainly the worst condition of the car. I have a spare, might try a painted version on the car and see how it looks.

Have attached a pic to show the extend of the rust and damage on the bonnet.

I'll be asking lots of questions about rust repairs soon.
