Would be good to have a discussion about what you get for your dollars re ECU's.
Probably because this CAN stuff is a bit 'smoke and mirrors' for us, not techy old timers,I have gone with Motec and Link/Aim on my builds. They are fairly user friendly, have great support platforms (which I use), and once you get a handle on the software and data logging are a great tool for knowing what your engine is doing and making incremental adjustments. I've never been confident enough to lash out with Speeduino et al.
And destroying a Cossie is not an option.

I've seen speeduino hooked up to a iPad which became the dash with full onboard dials warnings etc etc so they are decent. And fuel issue will be noticed and limp mode to save engine.

I'll be interested to see how you setup the crank and cam sensors for the engine further down the track, and if you go with adapting the std fuel tank for efi.

Speeduino is  probably fair to use on a relatively basic Pinto, and if perhaps in a way, less precious if things so into serious meltdown. I can understand why you''d be a bit more cautious.
But being open source, its an extra learning curve with people making their own gauge plugins on android tablets and phones.

Mark could go like zetec and have notches in the flywheel and the sensor can sit under the clutch cable, innit !

I have plans for the fuel tank, it involves this kit. It SHOULD be ok to fit with small rubber spacers on rear edge of the tank (diff side) to drop it down 20mm or so without harming anything, these will be adhered to the tank.

The aim is to space the tank down from the body JUST enough to clear the wiring and fuel lines, I'll also attach a deadening pad above the sender so it cant potentially ground on the body.

If that doesn't work, Ill get a small step down made in the tank to recess the sender a little. The only issue I can see will be ground clearance.

I think it depends on the goal too, if you want to have every sensor under the sun for a full blown race car then CAN can be great. If you want a turn key classic cruiser CAN in my mind is kinda pointless. Most aftermarket engine ECUs (to a point of course) can operate a motor off just Throttle, Crank position and MAF or MAP sensors. Hell they don't even need O2 sensors, that's just getting fancy!

My goal is somewhere in between, I want it to run really smooth, be responsive without going down the rabbit hole. Hence the MaxxECU, it has a start up base map loaded on it already so once the car is together as long as I haven't stuffed up anything it should just start right up.

I reckon you should suss out this before blowing gallons on a fuel pump arrangement

Paul passed away a few years back and his family got the rs completed.
He simply used a Falcon ba pump. I'm doing the same but using vy Holden which has sender integrated, I think Deano might go this way if he EFIs the van.

I looked at that and it was a really neat idea and execution. The only thing is the BA sender would definitely need an inspection hole (like he did) in the boot otherwise it would sit way too far down as its quite tall, if there was a sender that had a large enough lip to drill for a retaining ring and had a lower profile I would happily give it a crack.

Took a trip down to the powder coater to drop off all the bits I need coated (plus some extras) to get the girl rolling.

Still need to pick up the LSD and diff rebuild kit, will probably order that in the next week or so. Some nice engine internals arrived too but I'll wait until I have everything together to share those plans.

I have a few house side quests I need to complete, some work travel coming up and some parts that need to arrive before I can get stuck back into the car. So I may not have too many updates for the next few weeks but I'll post when something fun happens.
