Hello Everyone,

I'd seen a MK2 Escort Panelvan with a badge on the rear door 'Ford Escort 40' and was wondering if anyone could shine some light on if the badge meant anything and if these vans were any different from other van.

Thanks Shaun

Has it got something to do with the load space capacity? I think the Transits and other commercials had a similar numbering system. I've seen the CWT badges before they are in relation to the weight capacity eg 8cwt.
What Is CWT (Hundredweight)? (investopedia.com)

It could have something to do with its load capacity. I know the MK1 load capacity was measured in hundredweight (CWT). There were 6cwt (300kg) and 8cwt (400kg) vans. Difference between the two was that the 8cwt had a extra leaf in the rear springs than the 6cwt to allow for the extra load.

I've seen a few MK2 vans with the 'Ford Escort 40' badge and hoping someone can explain what the badge means.
