Whats your criteria Ultimo? Sporting, cruiser, modified, original, MK1 or 2?
For a cruiser I think a MK2 Ghia is a good pick. I'm seeing a few come up at, nowadays, reasonable prices, sub 10k. I wouldn't be too fussed about Pinto or Kent realistically either will be seen off by a hybrid Camry in traffic nowadays
I've always liked them shiny and restored but clean originals, warts and all, are appealing more and are easier to live with.
As for the sporting models, probably best to get in touch with a local club, I'm seeing a few changing hands without advertising or if they are its for drug money.
 

thats the problem now, they are worth so much even for something run of the mill.
The 4 door Ghia in my avatar was going to be a doner for the running gear for the van project
But how prices have risen in the past 2-3 years,  is a better return than super.
 
I'd be better off to sell it as it is, ie good solid 2L manual with rally pack bits for someone to paint up, and then use the proceeds to duratec the van instead?.
 
Plus it keeps another car on the road.

Funny story, we took the TD Cortina to a cars and coffee a few weeks back.
Guy approaches us and says "Who owns the orange Torana? We shrugged our shoulders. "Its yours" he says, pointing a nicotine stained finger inches from my face. "oh you mean the Cortina" "yeah that one, it'd be great with a small block in it, how much?"  bewildered and with my personal space clearly invaded I say "but its a thirtyfive thousand km original" His toothless smile widened "even better!"
For all I know he could've been a closet millionaire but no amount of money was going to get him my old Torana *I mean Cortina*

I've had one of those 'Torana likers' when I used to drive my Escort mk2 2dr as a daily, bright orange n black paint combo, mags, lumpy cammed motor, lowered, spoilers etc etc, the usual Escort thing to do.. I was driving to a local post office to shift an eBay sale, as I pulled into the park space these kids on skateboards and bmxs got out of the way, as I got out , one of the kids commented ' wow really nice, nice torana man..' as he was looking it over, I replied ' it's a Escort' .. the kids mumbled something to themselves and skated off.... Stoopid short people !!

In terms of preferences I'm thinking that the order would go like this.
Probably like most of us in here 
 
1. Mk1 Coupe
2. Mk2 Coupe
3. Mk1 Sedan
4. Mk2 Sedan
 
Ideally, I would like something I could enjoy driving around as is for a little while, sorting out any little issues and collecting bits and pieces to make it my own personal style and to upgrade to a more modern level under the skin.
 
I'm not concerned with keeping it too original, unless it was already very original.
 
So Marty, I'm not sure how much of a finished level you were thinking of getting your coup too before deciding to  move it on but I would certainly be keen to see if we could sort something out with your coup as I could wait 12 months for the right car.
 
I joined here a long time ago and have really been a casual observer while waiting for the right car to fall into my lap but now after letting a cheap Mk2 coupe slip through my fingers a few years ago, I'm wanting to go out and make something happen in terms of finding a car that gets me in the scene, hence this post in here.
 
I'm going to look at the car clubs now as well as checking Gumtree, Ebay, Facebook and Carsales every day or so at the moment but is there anywhere else to look that may yield results?
