And I wanted to be done with the column and ignition wiring, but its probably a very worthwhile mod Marty that you have done the leg work for, will stay tuned with baited breath.
 
A few pics back, your H4 headlight plug, I did the same, but is that other led globe your parker or maybe your indicator globe hanging around?
I only ask as the Narva headlights I just got in and fitted, came with parker globes also, but they were only about 1/10 the size and still lit up better than my Capri actual headlights. Not hard, I admit...

Yeah is is for the parker light, these are old escort ones, the new ones came with the crystal lights and are for T10 bulbs so are plenty smaller than the pic

Found out that when you leave tape on a panel for months it'll leave sticky residue everywhere. I had left the masking tape on since I painted the doors a few months back, great not, it came off with RP7 and a rag.
Once they were cleaned up I looked around for a safe spot for them, on the car seems good... So installing them,I used a piece of cut 8mm rod and a dynabolt for easy removal but will fit the gmh pins when I'm certain they don't need removal.
Door handles needed soaking in thinners from previous overspray colors, white, red etc. One thing I found out is the screws that hold the handles on are actually M5 so I might replace with stainless button or cap screws. Once the handle were on I moved to the striker latch in the door , as they'd been anodized there was no grease so I needed to get oil into the pivots and moving parts, they came good after a few mins and got installed , that's where it's at for now.


Color is a tiny bit light, tho it came from the same tin and because it's not settled fully yet it's should blend in within a few weeks.
Gaps are all about right now, for hinges are not correct and the guards are only pinned in place.

More building the doors up, I think they will stay on the car, why take them off now. Still needing the bailey channel, inner and outer glass seals or blades tho they can go on after glass is in it's the bailey channel I need now.
I'm still going to attempt the electric window conversion but not for now, will try on another spare door before I hack anything up. Deano, electric windows ???
Installing the inside door open lever was simple but the pass side threw me a bit as the door wouldn't shut, only bounce back. After a beer and some oiling of parts I noticed the spindle with the coiled spring was spinning, effectively doing nothing except look shiny, I'll remove it again and tig it solid so the spring does it's job of retracting the inner handle and the mechanism works correctly.
Also Deano, thanks for the 3d file for the no go gap tool, i printed it off today in pretty purple silk filament, just need to convert USA imperial to rest of world metric , it's a panel gap checker so you know how bad or good your car is !

I just liked that format of quick and simple guage, even as a basic printer test job.
 
Now if a bloke was retired and had nothing to do, for extra points you could import it into Tinkercad and replace the text with mm. 
 
No to electric windows, but maybe central locking.....

Yup, what's .1875" anyway , I did print the other one shaped like a star which I reckon is better . Retired guy, I'll call on Dave's Garage then.....!

Did you get centre locking already, just not fitted, I'll show a simple effective way when I do mine..

Last couple days I installed the sunroof into the mk1 , as it was a heavy chunk of glass and alloy I was doing it myself and didn't want to scratch the inside panels , plan was to use milk crates as stepping up blocks, 1 each side and sat the sunroof on them then added another 2 creates and stepped it up and so on till high enough to just lift one side and nut it up then moved to the other side and do the others up, 12 in total plus the back support stays.


Next bit of fun is to mount the VE SS Holden sunvisors with mirrors and lights.

Moving back onto the ignition barrel designed for Focus mk1, mine arrived yesterday so I had a good look and compare with the mk2 Escort one. Luckily it's the same diameter and the bottom tabs are identical, I did fully dismantle the barrel housing for this conversion. I can say that this conversion is pretty straightforward once the old barrel is out.


This is the barrel housing that had the mod needed which is the notch I did at about the 10oclock point on the housing.

This is basically it, the mod requires a notch cut where the Focus barrel keyway would be and a4mm hole for the locking spring pin

This is how the escort barrel is situated in the housing

This is focus one with the notch mood to allow it to slide in and lock in place. I used a hacksaw to cut the slot and broke it off them used jb weld to glue it back in place a bit further out to create the slot. I used cellophane as a barrier to keep the glue out while the barrel is in place

And this is the almost finished part even with the Focus keys !

Next I will see how easy it is to install the door lock , I might just practice on a offcut of sheet metal before I butcher the door skin, I think it's more close to the mk2 van for lock hole size, deano are you listening...? My door lock on the Escort will be the trusty Solex locks but I don't want 3x different keys , door, boot, ign.

My ideal would be to have my rear doors central locked as part of the 3,  so at to render the t handle surplus and not use any keys aprt from ignition.
 
Surely Mrs Marty could have helped hold the sunroof, looks like you got there anyhow.

I think the best way to render the T bar shed handle redundant is to see what ute or van like Hyundai I load etc use and graft the mechanism in somehow, I don't think the solenoid will have enough power to open the door . I am thinking with the centre locking I can use the boot or aux button to open/close the sunroof possibly .
Still working of the ign but now it's the steering column part. Mk2 has the ign body which mounts to the bkt welded to the column, mk1 doesn't, it's got the (big end bearing cap) system so I've taxed a steering rack mount or rear swaybar mount as the cap but have had to cut and weld it to fit, now I need to install it all in the car so I know where it will be positioned in relation to the column shroud, once done I'll weld it on allowing the ign body to bolt on as normal.
Mk1 and mk2 are just enough different is most things to be such annoyingly annoying !!

Wheels, ain't got tred for them yet..
