Still here, still doing stuff, but nothing interesting enough to post.
Just faffing around with heater hoses,repaing the diff again, cleaning starter motor, alternator, and replacing a new but leaking rocker cover gasket.
Actually i'm enjoying seeing everyone else rocketing along, and am sucking good ideas from each contribution.
 
Marty: I'm not excited to whip out the old Rip Curl steamer and glue strips of it all over my freshly coated, ultra shiney  bubble arches, but it is a very clever idea so jury is out deliberating.
 
Shaun: A mate had just about completed a 80K+ mk2 resto, that is totally amazing to look at. He'll be going for RWC and club rego shortly, but he has coil overs also. Interestingly, his coil overs are Capri legs, same as mine, and actually converted and gussetted by the same guy who is doing his RWC inspection, so we both believe there should not be an issue. And again with spaced M16's and no stoneplates. Will let you know outcome.
 
Mark: I found a manual  RS2000 cheap(ish) come up online, and a great resto base. You would have seen it on FB also, but I didnt suggest it too you as it was just like you have, no point in having 2 RS's hey?
 
So I've been daunted a little with the jobs list, and lack of progress getting them ticked off. I get tempted to skip ahead, but know it will be more of a pain later. Plus when you get shiney bits come in from the postie, it makes things worse. I think 1/2 of my car has come via a Honda step through.
 
Anyhow, the possible focus this week is just to do reassemble the rear drums so the wheels can go on, and get the front of the car raised up so the engine cam get slid under, maybe on the coming weekend. That might help get the motivation going.

another slight change of plans.
I replaced a rocker cover gasket on the weekend and noticed one of the valve stem seals wasn't seated.
From the short tests of the engine, they seemed ok, but as its a relatively unknown engine, the decision is made to take the head off, and get it reco'd now rather than later. Just a skim, hardened inserts and new valves. 
 
So I'm interested to hear what cams you have used or may suggest.
The rest of the engine is supposedly stock, and for know it will keep the weber 32/36. 
I'm leaning towards just a relatively mild came, from Kent KCFR31, which is meant to be easy to live with.

The front struts are  now completed.
It would have been done a little sooner, except for when I came to fitting the new steering arms for the final step.
Of course you can't fit the mount bolts from behind for the steering arms in once the brake disk and caliper are on.
Never mind, I'll remember next time.

I got to finally make my first copper brake pipes also, which were actually quite rewarding to do. Marty had sent me an Ebay link for the pipe and some fittings, and I grabbed a baskic flaring kit of Ali. The one pictured was the very first, and its probably a smidge short, the second one had nicer curves. The rear brakes are all refitted now also. Tracking down 8" shoes what a pain, seems like the 9" is much easier to get.
 
Apparently I am  some kind of panel repair wizz to my family, and can supposedly reweld, including an old early 2000s Mercedes. So this is now in the garage, it had 'rust' bubbles on the bottoms of 2 doors.
What could go wrong?

 
Fortunately after I hit the doors with the strip disk, the skins were actually quite fine, with just some surface oxidation and minor pitting. The doors had a plastic seam trim cap inside the lower edge, which looks like it always held water, and over time the paint broke down.

 
 
So a  good strip back, further sand  with 80 grit on the DA, then some etch prime, and spray putty:
 
 
There's a few other areas needing a touchup, which will all just be done with a rattlecan metallic green and clearcoat when I get a chance to get some later in the week.

Are they copper or steel brake lines? I have always used steel as I thought copper wasn't legal in Oz? Then again, most of what I do modification wise to my cars isn't 'legal' so its probably a moot point......

Actually, I was getting low on some of the 3/16 fittings so bought 6 more today from the local clutch and brake. $30.
We got about the same amount bundled from Ali, with the roll of tube, including shipping for $24 or $26 I think.
Is it over the top if I incralac'd the brake tubes? :)
 
I know flash hey! I dont want to get the struts dirty now.
Dont get me started on how the diff looks....

This brake line stuff is a bit of fun. We'll see if it is any good once the fluid goes in.
