I’ve been working on the blue ice one of late and haven’t done much at all on the electric one - even though I think it’s the way to go

Hi - stumbled across this thread as I've a Mk1 that I'm considering converting in similar fashion. Just wondered if you'd made any further progress in the meantime, or if you had any plans you were willing to share?

I just watched the Charged Garage channel as Robbie posted above.
The electric Cortina looks like it has been done well and is a very neat install.
 
The only thing I'm not a fan of is the great big sealed battery box with 2 of the 5 Tesla batteires sitting above the motor. I get it as far as weight distribution goes, but it takes away from seeing the impact of seeing the elecric motor sitting there where you expect a Pinto or whatever.
O-100 in 7.5 seconds, 240Nm, 90kW and 8,000 RPM.
Plus theres a bit of Supercar whine inside.
 
Makes me think the 4cylinder days are long over.

Yeah I thought the same thing Marty.
I get the weight thing, but to do it neater, I've wondered if they could go either standing up, alongside strut tower, near the old radiator or, or otherwise (in the van) behind the seats. If they could be relocated somewhere out of the area above the motor, it would make a much cleaner install. I dont mind the controller kit sitting in a smaller air box, maybe like as RS air cleaner shape, perhaps in conjunction with a strut tower brace.

 Seeing that Cortina take off at the lights (in 2nd gear), the sound of it, plus experiencing the torque from my electric mountain bike which is an absolute beast gives me more respect for electric. Apart from Spud who's tripping over them (poor bloke) , I think a Capri is maybe getting too valuable now to EV.
THe van on the otherhand owes me little and can be picked up cheap, plus they are lightweight and have space for the batteries.
 
I like the idea of the batteries in the old fuel tank, or at least its location under the floor.
2 charging sockets are for fast charging station and for home charging. Running the socket in the tailpipe is clever.
Imagine not having to worry about carbs, extractors, fuel pumps, fuel senders, sumps, worked heads etc.
replace that with a coolant system, DC convertor, battery monitor etc, plus you still need 12, but I reckon youd end up with a more reliable weekend hack.
I'm going to make up a dummy of the netgain engine to get an idea of size but need to do more research to get up to speed, firstly on Vic EV registration requirements compared to Qld.
