Unfortunately since the information about the "specials" came to light back in 2005 there has also been some misinformation or mistakes happen. I said back in 2005 that i thought that the eleven specials were the last capris made. I based this assumption on the build date of my car being 11/72. As there was then no information about build dates in the documents I thought that the build dates of all the specials would be 11/72. This proved incorrect as the build date information started to be revealed as more cars were found.
Another bit of misinformation is that all eleven were "deletes". Only a minority of capris with the delete option were assembled, the majority having the usual stripes and blackouts, and the specials were no different.
I will start a post in capri by the numbers soon with copies of all the "special" information so that all who are interested can find it easily. Cheers...ron.

Got a call from a guy who reckons he has one of the 11 Specials.  Its a Wild Plum CK17ME34026P built 9/72.  I also sold a set of switches to a guy who has one in Yukon Yellow (or similar) I'll try and get its number

JR, that number is not one of the 'specials', according to the paperwork!

A pic of the detail between DPort and Oval port. Size of 20c piece in front of carb means Oval Port if it’s not there it’s Dport.

And I hear you on that Spud. It’s really a conversation about facts we all speculate on. Which was the first car and Colour of the line. Which was the last car and colour off the line and I don’t care either way but those facts would help out tremendously.

Interesting reading so far ..this one is going the other way. ..the first few Capris ! .In the 90's i done some work on a gold Capri 1969 . What caught my attention was the strut towers were mig welded on without any spotwelds .. i asked the owner who was the 2nd at the time , he said the Capri didn't meet Australian road conditions and these strut plates as well as other plates about the car were welded on by Ford after it was built . He also said that only a handful got done like this till they caught up to the production/import run. Has anyone got, or seen one of these welded Capris and was the owner telling the truth. ....

Digging up the past here a little.
I would have to disagree with the strut towers. My guess is that they've been replaced and it was easier to just mig weld it up.
I have a March 69 built capri, when they started production, and my strut tops are spot welded... unless of course being the first it slipped through...

I don't want to split hairs here, and as a mechanic enthusiast back in those days you must remember 70s cars were worth less than scrap metal value ($100 or less) I don't think anyone would bother to repair them , aaaand unless you knew parts were available from UK at 5x the sticker price back then. The paint looked as weathered as the rest of the car. I don't have a photographic memory but this I do remember .
