Hi Bernie

I don't think anyone wants to rain on your parade or anything. I'd like to have the car you have, but it might be worth clearing a few things up.

1/  Uprated 165HP eng in lieu(i/l) of 144HP

The 11 specials had upgraded drivetrain, with the revised D-port engine, gearbox with revised ratios (3rd gear different?), and the 3.09 ratio diff (with LSD?). It should be noted that the stated horsepower isn't 'like for like'.

with improved front & rear Crank Seals

No idea/not heard of this.

2/  Steel centred Fibre Outer ring Timing Gear i/l of std all fibre

Yes, as part of the revised engine specs.

3/  38 DGAS Carby i/l of std 40DFAV Carby

Yes, as part of the revised engine specs.

4/  GT Badges placed several inches rearwards

This would only be the case if the car was ordered/made as a delete options car, which may have been the case for some of the cars given to sales reps/executives.

5/  "D Port Heads" inc larger Valves i/l of Oval Port

Yes, as part of the revised engine specs, but not sure about the valve sizes.

6/  Uprated D Port Intake Manifold

Yes, as part of the revised engine specs.

7/  Dizzy Performance upgrade (Centrifical weights change and/or Vacuum Control change?)

No idea/not heard of this.

8/  F&R Suspension upgrade

No suspension upgrades that I'm aware of - should be standard Aus capri V6

9/  All Black Interior with white Seat inserts and white Ceiling

Interior could have been whatever was ordered/allocated for the car. No specific trim combination for the specials

10/  Close ratio Gears and Bearing Upgrade in Gearbox

3rd gear was changed (I think) so that ratios were improved.

11/  Lower Ratio Diff Gears and  "        "       in Diff

3.09 diff ratio, not sure about bearings, but may also have LSD

12/  Speed adjustable Clock

Never heard of this

Was floor or any other sheetmetal reinforced more than any other V6 ?

No

Does anyone know specifically the technical details of the 165HP Engine over the std 144 HP Eng ?
(such as stroke/bore, Piston and Rings materials, Conrod materials, Mains, Big ends and small ends bearings material, Crank upgrade, Engine Block Girdles upgrade,  etc ?)

If you get a copy of the facelift manual JR has got reprinted (and selling on ebay), some of this will be in that. I suspect though, you may have to research UK sources to find what the uprated specs were. The change happened around the middle of 1971 in the UK, where all V6 capri then had the uprated engine fitted.

Also, as Spud has said, most of the drivetrain improvements the specials got were in the RS3100s, but the RS got a better internal linkage gearbox and suspension improvements.

Happy info hunting.

Cheers
Jamie

Ford simply ran out of drivetrains.  We had the Oval Port motors and Type J boxes dumped on us and when Ford Australia requested additional drivetrains there were none left.  The closest they could come up with was the early 3000E drivetrain which still used the 3 rail box (now fitted with the better ratios).  Oval Port motors and 3.22 diffs were gone and had to be the current D port and 3.09 ratios (non LSD).-This is the drivetrain fitted to the 11 known recorded examples-they were not built as a intended "special", that was a spin Stillwell put on the 4 that he got to sell off

Valves are the same size as Oval port.  There are a few internal differences (piston crowns, timing gear, cam specs water flow, etc etc) and a few external differences (stove pipe to air cleaner, engine mounts etc).  All noted in the '73 workshop manual- I have only 1 left for sale.

Bernie your car is one of the 11 delivered with the uprated drivetrain.  Yours was also delivered in Delete form.  The 11 cars are made up of both Delete and GT paint scheme.  Ironically some had every conceiveable option fitted and others had zero options.   My Yellow Fire Special was Delete, Steve A's Lime Glaze is a delete, Murrays is fully loaded with Vinyl roof, factory sunroof, LH mirror, radio, GT paint and stripes.

Thanks JR but what the weight of one of the specials would have been different. Also the weight of an RS 3100 must be different. Unless all was not checked after the first model V6.

RS3100 weight is lighter at 1050kgs (kerb weight), and the 11 ‘specials’ would be much the same weight as the usual Aus V6 capri.

Bernie, just to clarify my quote hereunder and previously posted above:

'Bernie, your GTV6 is NOT a DELETE option Capri, it is one of the identified 11 Capri 'Specials' that Ford Australia fitted with the 'D' port motor, etc, etc. It's got nothing to do with a 'Delete' options Capri, nothing!'

Your GT/V6 is first and foremost one of the identified 11 Capri' Specials' or 165hp models, last of the build or whatever we want to identify them as. That's what I was trying to pass on to you and the other contributors. It may well be a delete options Capri, but it is special, not because of that, but because it is one of the Capri 165hp 'Specials', that's all.

Cheers, and Happy New Year to you and all the other contributors!
