A long time ago I won an incorrectly listed ebay auction for a sr20 manifold and turbo for 99 cents.

Fast forward a few years and instead of renovating the bathroom, I was cleaning the shed, and came across it on the shelf, dusted it off and set about making it fit the pinto.

This was more a proof of concept, too see if it would actually fit, as i had heard it was close but had never seen a completed version. Therefore, it isn't pretty, however given the relative ease of fitment, I would be keen to try it out with a decent tubular manifold and actually spend some time on it.

Will let the pics do the talking.

Manifold and turbo as i got it.

Remove turbo.

Check for fitment next to old extractor flange

Trim excess to suit

Place flange over manifold, align and tack to suit

Bolt to head, weld around where possible. Then removed from head, cut a little more off for exhaust studs and welded completely

Filled port mis-match with weld

Quick tickle with the die grinder

Final fitment.

Will be interesting to see how it holds up and if it stays together.
Turbo placement is a little to the rear but still enough for a downpipe.
Would be a viable option for one of the many cheap tubular manifolds on ebay,

Great stuff Mate

That looks pretty good.  What are the chances of you actually getting it going?

Be a shame to build it but not use it

Any particular reason you made it top mount?

Matt,

I have a bathroom to finish first!

There's a running motor on a stand in the shed, otherwise, I still have the 2 door orange escort after the ebay sale fell through it might be a summer project. You still after a grill???

Eskie,

I didn't actually try it as a low mount but it looked as though it would foul with the engine mount.

ratta tat tat
Mine is also an adapted SR20 manifold. The runner from cyl 1 has been cut &  lengthened slightly. Yes, the dump pipe will be tight but definitely doable. Nice work Shaun

This is awesome knowing SR20 and Pinto parts can work together. I have heaps of SR20 spare parts due to having a 180SX as a project car as well as my Escort.
