G'day all,
I've had the body work blues for a while now so I thought I'd start detailing some parts. In doing this I broke my golden rule "one thing at a time grasshopper" and ended up with a garage full of unfinished items and parts in buckets.
Found a really nice crossmember but the bump stops were shot, lucky enough I found another at an auto jumble, beaten to oblivion but the rubbers were schmick, paid $25 for it so happy with that. Also found a two bolt starter motor, the spring was shot but I managed to swap one out from the three bolt spare I had along with a nice set of brushes, looks like it had been reconditioned by the previous owner. The circlip for the spring was an interesting one to remove without a compressor, I knew screw drivers and fingers working too close were a bad idea and ended up paying the price but hey, it wouldn't be blood sweat and tears without the blood
Parts are back from the platers and powder coaters and together again, generator looks the goods with its plated fan, the rest of the bling came up a treat too.
Found the correct gearbox but it was missing its remote shifter, I remembered a guy that had mentioned he had one so gave him a call (18 months later) and grabbed it. Bonus it came with a bush and collar kit aswell.
Engine out, box swapped and then back in, ready to repair the tunnel now.
Hoping for some steady progress, have a new job on a golf course so with a 12:30pm knockoff the afternoons are mine to spend in the garage...
Cheers Drew

Hey Drew. Looking good. I guess you couldn't resist the lure of getting everything professionally coated after all!

Yeah mate I caved. We went to the Mustang nationals over the easter weekend and I got a little drunk on all the shiny stuff on show

I have noticed you have an affinity for bling Drew.
Chroming is addictive you know and should be avoided.

Haha Deano I must have been a magpie in a previous life... I'm attracted to shiny things...
One step forward, one step back this week.
My GT air cleaner assembly arrived thanks to another gumtree wanted ad. Nice and straight with no cracks at the base. Got the carb and manifold out to start detailing them and found a crack in the manifold and that the water fittings have been cut off with an angle grinder, aargh! Heading to the engineering shop for a diagnosis/ feasibility report this week. Otherwise it'll be back to gumtree for another wanted advert.
Cheers Drew

Home made electroplating, might save you enough on your chroming costs to buy a new house I reckon!

Thanks Tedi, reading the tread again makes me realise how far its come, still alot to go though so just going one step at a time...
Funny you suggest that Deano, I looked into home plating when I was building the Escort and thought "nah to much to set up, I'm only building one car"  Famous last words Finding room is the biggest issue in expanding my operations, that and I'm onto a plater that is pretty reasonably priced, the last batch I pictured, with a heap of nuts and bolts aswell came to $100. Interesting link though, maybe when I get my lotto garage.
Cheers Drew
