Hey mate, its been on gumtree mainly. The wheels came up for what I thought was a bargain at $400, I don't mess around so dropped everything and drove a two hour round trip to get them. Been selling a few parts too and always ask in return 'so what have you got' I've had heaps of luck with wanted adds, thats where the car came from in the first place. You'll deal with a few numpties and mis-spelt sms's late at night "me mates bro's friend has thiz old car!! wantz 20k!! wanna buy it!!' The seats were a funny story, he replied to my wanted add, didn't think much of the address until I turned up in Dalkeith, one of Perths wealthiest suburbs. I thought someone was having a lend of me but sure enough in the garage of this mansion were a pair of dusty old Cortina seats, lol, didn't argue the price, it wasn't like he needed the money...

You've got to post a photo of what this rich guy has been storing all these years.  Did you ask why he had them?

I'd like to respect his privacy so I'll only say its nice to think that even a suburb like that gets rattled by some small ford muscle every so often. Seriously though he was a proper 'car guy' and was doing me a a favour at the end of the day. Good people are still out there...

Loving this project Drew. One of my first cars was also a 4 dr GT with a hot crossflow. Sold it to buy a 2 dr Mk2 Escort. Wish I'd been able to keep it.

Thanks Mud, seems alot of people have fond memories of these old things...

It's been a case of best laid plans gone to waste last couple of weeks. Having not sold the engine yet I was going to move onto the interior then I got a tap on the shoulder at work saying I had too much holiday accrued so here I am now with five weeks of freedom...
Started on the body, four days into that the engine sold so I dropped it all to pull that out. Back to the body now. Rubbed the whole thing back panel at a time and got it into epoxy. Found a couple of surprises good and bad. The drivers guard has taken a small knock and was full of bog, that was bad, I knew there was bog in the drivers rear arch but it turned out to be rust free, thats good. Someone had rolled the arch with a sledge hammer by the looks of it and hidden the evidence with a thick layer of filler, it took a morning of dolly'ing but its all straight now. Found a few pin dents around the place but managed to get them out with a lick of proof coat and the dolly again.
Started the welding yesterday, the shells really good, doors, bonnet and boot are all spotless, just the sills, passenger arch and rear wheel wells to do. Finished the drivers sill and wheel well, haha bit rusty with the welder so started on the easy side first.
Anyway back to the garage, more progress to come... Drew...

Looking good Drew, should be able to take a big bite out of the work list- hope you don't get too many distractions.  My missus is away for 10 days and I hope to get a few jobs done, even tho I've just started my first full time job in a while. Len

Thanks for the positive comments guys...
Finished the bodywork on the drivers side this week, weathers turned here in Perth so I moved into the workshop and started on the doors. They all turned out to be great rust free items under all that matt black except for one of the frames that had a hidden nasty under the the stainless trim. Bit of an awkward spot but a couple of hours later theres a fresh piece of steel in the hole...
The doors have been a bit of a non event really, but i'll take it all the same haha.
Cheers Drew.
