hi Mark,
interesting thread to bring back, but I'm with you on SMKa's comments.
The front struts I have in my 77 van seem to have the narrower dia springs, so whilst they are theoretically rebuit, they have nothing special brake wise so possibly not worth keeping. If I have to swap the steering rack over also as per SMKA, in order to get Capri or better escort (2L?) ones, well that's just something else that needs to get done.

Have you seen the converted full struts/brake kits from  Anthony Ford Escort Specialists on facebook?

I put gpr4 struts on my mk2 and all my oem brakes bolted on with no problems at all, so im assuming the m16 caliper bolt spacing is the same.

I wonder if the bolt on steering arm vs aus made cast steering arm causes the issues?

also want some brake porn, suss this - http://www.reyland.co.uk/front/

Thanks for the input fellas.

Deano, I have seen the Ford Escort Specialists listings but honestly, as I have Proflex front and rear, its really only the braking part I'm after and at the end of the day I think AP or Wilwood is the way to go. Only issue is I use 5 stud 114.3 PCD (Falcon) pattern so will have to sort hubs out separately.

My first conversion back in the late 80's was a Pinto into a mk1 Escort. I remember getting some V6 struts (complete assembly and easily come by back then!) and that was about it in that area, everything worked. Mk1 Capri and MK1 Escort. All good.

Yes Robbie, as for the earlier bolt on arms versus the one piece cast I know there is a difference but I have never bothered getting one of each assembly next to each other to measure up. As you used GP4 struts, anything from the UK should fit as per Smcka's comment. The calipers are the same.

There are more suppliers of AP than I thought imaginable!

My struts were from the uk so as above, everything fits nicely. Unable to shed light on any differences between UK/Aus struts.

A few places in the Uk should be able to make supply hubs in your chosen stud spacing, once I’m back on the computer I might be able to find some.

Thanks Robbie.
Burton's not surprisingly came back zilch. I am going to try my contacts over here cause the VAT, freight, import duty, gst and customs fee are getting out of hand. My last import (~$2500 goods + freight) ended up costing just under $500 in the aforementioned charges.
I can get the AP stuff here so its just a matter of sorting Falcon hubs machined to suit the Escort (hopefully in alloy). This is what Hoppers do (in steel).

I knew i seen a post about this issue, contact scott from classic ford care, he just made a post about doing hubs in any spacing/offset.

Calipers in Aus ive found to be really over priced, some wanting more for calipers alone then a kit from the Uk even considering taxes etc upon arrival. Where are you looking for source from and what caliper?

Thanks for that link Robbie. It never ceases to amaze me at who is out there doing stuff!
I will contact him and see what he can do.

I agree with the calipers for sure. Anything decent out here is around $2k for a pair. And that's fine, but does it compare with AP, Brembo etc????

At this stage I am looking at AP CP5040 calipers on a 295mm disc. Motorsport Tools, Reyland etc all stock them separately, or in kit form, but they cannot do the hubs. Mind you if I am getting the hubs fabricated I would prefer to do it here rather than the UK. So will try and source the lot here.

I think if your using AP/Brembo or alcon they will be top tier - also i think brembo owns them all?

If i wasnt going for dust seals thats the kit i would be targeting also. I think youll be able to solve the hub problem pretty easily.

If scott cant help id be looking at john downs in melb who runs classic rally sport and works closely with grp4

Thanks Robbie, I'm not quite with you on the dust seals though? I thought most calipers have them or are available as an aftermarket item? A quick look has come up with them for some Brembo and Wilwood calipers.
