Has anybody had any experience with brake kits from Burtons. I am looking at upgrading my front brakes and eventually rears for road use, however i dont want to start modifying my struts in anyway. I would like to know that i can simply bolt on a system. I dont even want to enlarge the bolt holes. Burtons, has the following kit for example

http://www.burtonpower.co...-powerlite-rdbk1r.html

but it doesnt mention if any mods are required.

Any input would be great as my brakes are practically useless even after a rebuild.

Regards

Those brackets have been made specialy for the job so yes it should all just bolt on. Final adjustment is taken care of with the use of washers.
Also as the area of the pistons is similar to original then there will be no master cylinder problems or balance problems. Disc clearance to ball joint will have been taken into consideration. Because the disc bolts to the hub the same as original then the wheel will end up in the same place, an important thing if clearance to the mudguard is already minimal.
Will it solve your braking problems?
Maybe, but if there are other things wrong such as oversize rear drums with shoes not making proper contact, booster not performing and the wrong front pads then it will all add up to a lacklustre result.
You could shoot an email to Burtons regarding the compatibility of the kit.

That kit, nor any others from the UK will not fit your mark 2 Escort strut without major modifications. They are all made for the Capri strut.
Australian mark 2 struts were different to any strut used in the UK.

Hi All,
can i simply swap my original Mk 1 Escort front struts complete with rotors and calipers for mk 2 escort struts etc ?
If so do i use the mk 2 master cylinder without a booster ?

If you fit mk2 struts you will also need the steering rack to match. You may need to change or modify the brake line to metric at the caliper..imperial and metric don't mix. M/cyl can stay mk1 , keep the vac booster.

I have half a Hopper Stoppers kit almost brand new.  Braided brake lines and callipers with adapters and brand new pads. You need hubs and rotors. $300 ONO

Hi Guys,
Resurrecting this old thread because I'm looking at front brake options and wanted to use previous comments.
I suppose it follows on from PF's HiSpec brake conversion on the current 'Mk2 Escort sleeper project' thread.
I note with interest that Stephen McKay comments that UK kits will not fit Australian MK2 Escort struts.

Is this true as I have never sourced any brake components from the UK?
Either pieced stuffed together here or used Hoppers. This car is being built for tarmac/track.

If so what is the difference between UK and Australian MK2 Escort struts?

You may remember my hassle with the ride height on the Capri last year using a spring (CS132)  Burtons said would lower the car! Raised it by about 2". That I assumed was due to spring seat height differences.
Thanks,
Mark
