Whats the current thinking on best diff options for an escort.
 
Clutch plate english LSD up to how much power?
Then
Hilux clutch plate if using with more power? Are these getting hard to get now?
Fiera impossible to get now right?
 
Any other good options?
 
Not wanting ATB or cone type diffs and want to keep weight down.

3J or trans x plate diffs. With mk1 axles prob good for up to 180hp. More with billet axles. Big power use shortened R31 skyline diff or rn25hilux which are getting expensive due to scarcity

Is the R31 diff a Borg Warner with Cones in it or does it have a plate LSD instead?

r31 is a cone type, but can be shimmed to be pretty damn tight

Agree with mk1 here, but if your not overly worried about a few kilo`s then hi-lux is the go for strength, hi-ace diffsa are the same but 10mm wider

What about FORD COURIER/Mazda ute? There are a couple of LSD options, loads of them in auto wrecking yards these days

The thing to remember about these commercials are the diff ratios-high 4's and 5's. Great for acceleration for track cars etc but hard on engine revs for street cars. I run 4.1LSD and certainly wouldn't go higher.

Yeah I should have been more specific about the diff weight. So if the english diff can take up to 180hp, whats the lightest option above that? I'm sure any upgrade will weigh more than the english axle.
Example, I don't want a Ford 9inch, i've seen them in escorts too, no joke. The tubbed wheels nearly touched the diff carrier.
