You will be surprised at how many capris there are in this area. All types 4cyl. 6cyl. v8 and the fabled GAA. I thought I was a capri tragic but looking around I see that Im only an amature.[^]

Today we finaly got some color on the car! The deal with the painter is that we paint the engine bay and boot and under the bonnet and door edges and then all else is done by him in the booth. Anyway the engine bay is painted in the red pepper color.
We are using the 2pak system. The color is applied with just color and thinners 50-50 then the clear is sprayed on top with hardener. Should be very shiny.
I think that this is the turning point of the rebuild. Instead of destructing I am now constructing. Woo Hoo!

Great to see the car coming along so well. When you look back at the start of the project it's been a mighty effort to get it to this stage. One observation is that I noticed on the primered shell that you have left the holes empty for the vinyl roof to be refitted. Have you made the final decision to keep the vinyl roof? A factory special, with a vinyl roof - now there's a rare Capri!

Thanks Brent, yes the vinyl roof will be going back on. Its one of those items that people either love or hate but it was original fitment so yeh. The car has spent a fair few years witout the vinyl top but the chrome trim was always on there making it easy to replace.

It'll be great to see it with the roof finished. Maybe I'm showing my age, but I cannot ever recall seeing a Mk1 with a vinyl roof before. With the amount of history you have with this car, are there any other unique or rather rare features that the car was fitted with when new? As one of the very last off the production line, many were aware that Ford loaded up these cars with as much of their left over options and accessories that they could. You may have the Capri version of a Ford Landau!

Brent lots of the 72 models were loaded with options and my car was no different in that respect. The letter I have from ford is quite clear regarding the uprated units which they state were only 11, even including the engine numbers. By the way, Murray Jeffs car is one of the uprated units , his engine number is on my list of 11. No other units have come to light so far.
As far as other unique parts not including the engine gearbox and diff, not much else except for some handling enhancements like 24mm anti sway bar and shockers that were quite stiff at high speed unlike the standard car which used to float up and down all the time.(lovely cruisy ride tho). Also 6" rostyles which were wider than the standard. And an electric fuel pump which truth to tell I cannot remember whether it was factory fitted or whether I fitted it along with the electric radiator fan.
The brakes were left standard which made the car super dangerous in the stopping department. These brakes worked quite well on the twincam weighing about 820kg but how were they supposed to work on a car weighing 1050kg?
The car definetly had cloth seat inserts as advertised altho not indicated on the vin plate.
Some of the cars had sunroofs although not mine.
