Welding of the bodyshell.
Ive been welding the shell for a while now and am making some progress. I decided at the outset that this car would not be a concours type restoration. I wanted period style mods and practical alterations, such as inertia reel seatbelts, new driving lights, tited laminated sreen, cd player etc. etc. The shell is staying original except for these practical considerations, the grille panel under the rear screen to be made removable and painted seperately, the heater cover in the engine bay ditto for maintainance, and the front guards to be bolted on not welded. This is also for ease of maintainance. This shouldnt affect the originality of the car too much and can be reversed if nessesary but this way any future repairs will be much easier.
These things and the rust repairs are pretty much what anyone that is contemplating a capri restoration will have to do so i will be showing pics of the work as it progresses. Also im just a beginner at this so whatever i can achieve so can anyone else.
I jumped right in at the worst spot on the car, the a pillars. This is the left one.

Hi hotboostgt. Yes the capris with uprated drive train were only built in november 1972. Paint code on mine is "x" which is red pepper. This car was originaly fitted with a black vinyl roof and will be refitted.

I got a sniff of a wild plum 72 that possibly has a sunroof, in poor condition, it *could* be another long lost "Special"......

JR good luck in hunting it down.
Glenn are you sure it was orange? The four bib stillwell badged cars were red pepper (mine), lime glaze, yellow fire and wild plum. I dont know what colours the other seven were. This is why i changed the title of my project to "ford factory special" because this is what they all were. Bib stillwell just happened to buy four and slap his badge on them.
Then he advertised them as "Imported capris" giving the impression that they were built in england and shipped out here. Not true but looked good in the advert. In fact all our aussie capris were "imported" but as a dirty big box of parts. (That describes my shed right now.)

Cars sold and modified by Stilwell all had a BSS badge, not just the 4 specials. There are a pile of BSS badged capris Ken Jones' white MK1 is a BSS modified car (red interior remote mirrors etc). The orange one used to come to Yarra Glen shows a few years ago I haven't seen it for at least 15 years, good to see it survived. Oh and I also heard that there is a teal glow V6 the same as my old one kicking around, also possibly auto

Yep thats my point JR. The eleven cars were factory built. Bib stillwells were taking the credit for the mods but all they did was slap their badge on. Never the less when mine is rebuilt the BSS badge will be rightly on the bootlid.

Thanks Glenn. On closer inspection this car looks like a 1970 model,(bonnet pins, low back seats, and number plate starting with K, should be L.) I would like to know why the sticker is on it though. The owner might have bought the drive train from a wrecked special and therefore felt justified to use the sticker. A check of the engine number would verify. (one day.)
