Hi everyone,
can anyone confirm if ALL Mk1 Capris, inc the 11 Specials, all had identical Master Cylinders ?
If so, then all fittings will be AF/Imperial, and so there should be no concern that Metric Tube Nuts had been introduced.
Most reports I've heard over the years from Mk1 Escort & Capri owners, is that "stock" brakes weren't the best even from "Day1" when everything was new ?
I'm having reservations about the Master Cylinder "DESIGN" : that crazy "poppet valve" under the reservoir that services half the car seems part of the cause of weak brakes. I will investigate closely when I get a chance to pull the Master and strip it down.
I prefer to keep the entire system "stock", so if anyone has technical knowledge on this Braking System "pitfalls" or shortcomings, I sure would appreciate it before "going in"
cheers

Bernie, according to the Capri Parts Catalogue, ALL Australian assembled Capri's (be they 1600's or 3-litres) shared the same Dual-Line Brake Master Cylinder, part no: 69EB 2140 CA.

Terry, many thanks for your confirmation.
I can't help telling everyone that when I replaced my rear Wheel cylinders with Brand new Assemblies (as they were cheaper from UK inc post than what Brake Parts ABS wanted just for the bloody seals!), the brakes improved by at least 10%, but the HANDBRAKE "feel" and adjustability was like 150% improvement !
Is it true there's no exclusive difference in the fitting specs of the ESCORT Mk1 Master Cylinder that would easily accomodate our Capri Mk1's ?

Is the Burman and TRW Racks fully interchangeable please ?

The original Capri V6 rear wheel cylinders have a 0.70 inch diameter bore, whereas the 1600 models used a 0.75 inch diameter bore that, as I understand it, is the only difference in the braking system between the 4 and 6-cylinder models. As for the Escort Mk.1 Master Cylinder, I have no idea, except to say that the Mk.1 Escort was released in March, 1970, nearly a full year after the Capri was released in early May, 1969.

Quick question to Special owners, does your car have the metal strip and rubber seal along the bonnet slam panel?  Mine has holes for it (like my 3000E does-which is pre Facelift, and my RS had one which obviously is facelift), only just noticed it

Does anyone know if the 2 Steering Racks are interchangeable (Burman v TRW) ?

Bernie as far as I am aware they both fit though parts from each can't be interchanged from either rack.
