Hi Keith, wow thats quite a collection you have there all the best with it.
the australian dport cars all have australian numbers which match the body numbers,ck17me******* so if there is an engine with english numbering then its most likely a private import.(except for rs3100).
All thr gtv6 built from aug to nov72 that i have seen have the prefix ck17me which suggests that all these final cars had their shells assembled in august72 and were finished off over the next few months to november.

Hi Ron. Are you sure that GT/V6s assembled from August through November were all CK17ME (Aug '72)prefix.
I have records showing the breakup of assemblies as follows:
August '72, 65 manuals & 4 autos
September '72, 47 manuals and 1 auto
October '72, 15 manuals & 4 autos
November '72, 22 manuals & 6 autos.
I'll do some more checking, but I believe that these would have had CK17ML (Sept, '72), CK17MY (Oct, '72) and CK17MS (Nov, '72) prefix's respectively! Cheers, Terry

Keith I forgot to mention that those inner guard fillets are found on the 1972 models. There is one to prevent mud splash fom building up in the rear of the guard, and a smaller one to stop mud buildup above the headlight.

Terry, no not sure its just that all ive seen from august on have ME prefix. Has anyone got either ML,MY or MS prefixs?
The information is out there and there would be lots more stories to tell if only we could gather the info and collate it, is the capri register idea just too hard or should we be doing more in this regard?

When I was looking into Capri numbers (and even since then), I didn't see anything past ME, even with build dates past August.

Kieth, This is just a theory but I think the 9A25 was stamped when the motor was new and not in a car yet as evidenced by the number facing the stamper at rear of engine. This number might lead to new zealand as that is our closest source of dport motors.
The other number looks like it was stamped with the motor in the car as evidenced by the number facing the stamper at the right side of car. It was probably put there by our authorities to provide a suitable number for australian records. Others on the forum would be well versed in NZ numbers.

V and P usually means that it is a supplementary number issued by Roads Corp, usually when the ID of a car has been removed or cannot be traced.  More than likely this number could be traced and lead to the car (most likely once stolen and recovered with the body numbers filed off, or like a 69 70 capri that had the VIN on the slam panel that was replacec in a smash.  )

Hi it allegedly came from a wrecked car 25 years ago and has sat ever since. The area around the stamp shows no sign of being ground down but that says nothing. I spoke with a Kiwi the other day regarding a Perana he has just bought his name is Lawrence and certainly knows you John. I will ask him about it. I got a w pattern inlet manifold for Dport motor with twin webers from South Africa it's really nice and am thinking of installing on it. Any ideas or pitfalls?
