Car is now all painted and the blackouts done.
Ive been out of work for a few weeks(building industry), but the upside is that the car is coming together. Front and rear suspension is in, pedal box and steering and heater box.
Job to tackle now is the wiring, Im fixing 35 years of bodge jobs and making it as originaly intended then Im going to add some extras such as relays for lights, thermo fan, electronic ignition, power aerial. Any ICE can come later.
Also not to forget a fusible link. Electrical fires in the middle of nowhere are no fun.
A few pics coming shortly.

Hi Ron, it's good to here that your car is now starting to take shape, not ready for the Cleveland Car Show next weekend but if you keep going maybe we will get to see it at the All Ford Day at Kedron later on in the year. There is also another good safe measure you can do in the wiring harness and that is to run the power wire direct from the alternator to the battery terminal as adopted by the facelift model.

Thanks for the tip Ray. Im shifting house in the next few weeks and then have to put the capri under wraps while I build a new workshop but hopefully it wont take too long.

Just a few words re the wiring: Seems you are going for originality wherever possible, and so adding relays for all those big current devices you mentioned previously in the engine bay might detract from the genuine look.

I would put the headlight and thermo relays under the battery carrier. In that position the wiring is kept short to the battery, lights fuse block and thermos.

You could probably put a few fusible links under there too.

From memory, the battery positive feed to the cabin drops down to the lower engine bay area near the bottom of the battery carrier so the wiring would be well disguised.

A power supply feed to the lights fuse block would be easy to integrate into the original harness also.

It is a good tip Ray. In those days, Ford would have fed the alternator output up to the ignition and lights switches to minimise voltage drop due to the absense of relays. Relays were expensive in production and probably made problem solving a little more challenging for the average mechanic back then!

When you see ten red capris all in a row, mine will be the one with the black vinyl roof. At least Ill be able to find it in the car park.
