..., is it possible, will it happen??
Here's some pic's of the protype 2012 Ford Falcon 4cyl turbo Falcon.

It's what's under the bonnet that is interesting. RWD 4cyl turbo.

Power figures are yet to be finalised, but reports suggest 0 -100 km/h in mid 7sec in a Falcon. In a Escort we should see mid 5sec easy stock. This has to be good news for the classic Ford owners wishing to update their driveline. So who's going to build the first Ecoboost Escort... or should that be Escoboost Escort!

Been looking for more info, pic's, etc. on this engine with no luck. Anyone have any info? Is the block based on anything currently out on the market (Duratec)?

From what I understand it is a relative of the duratec four cylinder, but only contains a small number of parts from it. Looks like the drivers side engine mount may be an issue in an escort, with the turbo mounted where it is.

Its probably a fwd ecoboost engine adapted up for rwd(if you look on the front of the motor it looks like unused engine mount bracket). Most likely plucked out of current model mondeo that comes with 2.0l ecoboost.

Wikipedia describes the engine as being fitted to the current Volvo XC60, S60 and V60 (all FWD). The engine is being made in Spain and are different to the Duratec.

There are some pictures on wikipedia but they don't really give a good view of the alternator and mount areas.

If it the same engine as in this photo...

...then there might be an issue with height. Looking at the sump in the photo, I doubt it would clear the steering rack, and be able to fit under the bonnet.

It does look to have a number of similarities to the Duratec....

If the block turns out to be exactly the same to the current Duratec, then that would be very good news, as Duratec conversion parts are available off the shelf.

The more I look, the more it looks like a duratec, block, starter position, thermostat housing, rear main seal, egr valve....and so on....I would even put it out there that it is based on a duratec!! I think it is very possible that is simply a direct injection head on a current Duratec block?!!
