Just wondering how the EFI stacks up over the standard 32/36 Weber. I am in the process of fitting it to my plnto as I had plans of turbocharging as well but wanted to see how it goes without the blower. Any of you guys running NA EFI on their pinto's? I have an EFI head that I will get assessed and then flowed with cam kit.Any info would be appreciated.

HI Laurie

I do not have an EFI Pinto (a few do who can comment) but I would have thought there would be no disadvantages to going EFI over carby - except for intitial costs? Assuming you have an aftermarket ECU you'll have direct control over fuel and spark which is not possible with the carby.

Irrespective of the advantages with a NA configuration there are even more when you go forced induction over the blow through method with a carby (intercoolers etc).

Laurie,
I've been running EFI for years, best thing i ever did.
Better than the twin webers too, they are good for full revs thats about it. The EFI can be tuned through every range properly. And it will start cold no pumping the gas or choke

I run the megasquirt ECU, over the last few months have been tuning on the road with the auto tuner.

Thanks guys. I have the standard EEC IV with the electtonic dizzy that came with it. I have been recommended the EMS ECU. There are so many to choose. I think I will have to just trial and error I think.[88]
Grant are you running the Kent FR34 cam or standard?

can't remember the spec mild crow cam. Lumpy idle etc

Don't have pear shaped ports don't think its worth doing unless you are chasing every possible HP.

Idles 700-800 smoothly

I think cam profile is only an issue if you run the std ecu

Laurie, the standard EEC may be restrictive if you can't reflash it. Plenty of afterrmarket ecu's around depending on your ability & wallet. Weigh up whether you want fuel and spark & importantly how many inputs, outputs, logging, tunability & flexibility to add to.I run a megasquirt, after a steep learning curve the end result is brilliant and good online support.

Have you had a look at tunerstudio??

http://www.efianalytics.com/TunerStudio/

see its free now, think i paid $30 or something for it. not bad live tune is worth playing with.

Laurie if you did go with megasquirt can send you a running file to get started. :)

Yeah I have heard a bit about the Megasquirt ECU. Can you source them here in OZ or do you have to source from the old country? All the help is appreciated as I am Old Skool when it comes to engine management. Can I still run the electronic Sierra Dizzy with the aftermarket ECU, or will I have to go crank sensor and trigger???
