Hi all, a small update on the car. Due to the use of the engine plate I had to relocate the alternator and as alternators aren't, in my opinion, pretty I had decided I wanted to have it low and out of the way.

I had previously run a gilmer drive and found it a no fuss kind of thing. I had heard tell that they might use more hp than a v belt but being unable to find any real world testing I beleive the difference would be negligible, especially when talking about hundreds of horsepower. To be honest though I love the sound of the gilmer drive and so it was always a starter.

After looking around the internet I found I was fairly satisified with the look of the aeroflow (Rocket) brackets and ended up buying a BBC unit to suit my intended use. Drilled and tapped some holes, and mounted it up... sweet. Then reliased once I attached the little turnbuckle adjuster that the clearance on minimum adjustment I had set the bracket up for was in fact way smaller than the adjuster went leaving a gaping hole :( So I moved it up and drilled some new holes and tapped those. Bought the new longer belt today, played around with some temporary spacers to move it all forward, bought some new longer bolts and job 96% done. Waiting on the "pretty" spacers now and we'll call it 100%.
I purchased a new gilmer pulley set and asked the rep if they were polished. "Yeah mate they are polished" says the rep. So I open them up at home and they aren't ... they are a satin look. I can live with it but am considering polishing the front face of the water pump pulley. Later. Maybe...

Garry, in the Gazspeed Skunkworks, has been toying about with my bonnet. The last moron had changed the hinges and added gas struts as requested but like many other jobs he had fluffed it. As I think I mentioned my facelift bonnet arrived some time ago and so Garry remounted the hinges and reversed the hinge sections on the bonnet. Some mucking about with gas struts and voila... bonnet opens and closes properly. The gas struts Garry ordered aren't quite strong enough to hold the bonnet up but that's easily fixed.
While this was happening he also fitted my lockable Aerocatch bonnet pins. I think they look cool and are flush fitting and all one piece - no chasing pins etc. I like the fact that I can lock the bonnet down at the pins using the key or if I am competing I can unlock them but still have them operate in the normal fashion. I purchased the "carbon fibre look" ones.
I few other unexciting things happened around the car but they don't rate a photo.

A small update of the stuff Garry has been tying together. I was unhappy with one section of the 4 link as it was not what I had ordered originally so Garry changed link, made a battery cover (the battery sits in an enclosure in front of the passenger side rear wheel), fitted some mirrors (teardrops are where it's at) and finished up the ends of one sill that were too long. We were having some discussion about how low to get the car and how I wanted it to sit. So we lowered the front and dropped out the rear springs, hence the jack in the pics. I was after a fairly neutral stance and want to avoid the ass down look that is so popular with the kids. By the tape measure the car is sitting dead flat from the sills and the swage down to the ground. Close enough for now.
Front guards are next to cop some loving. I have rust repair panels for both lower sections and there are some repairs needed along the top. Then they need to be aligned properly and stitched on. It is my intent to flare the front guards in the RS2600 fashion - unsure of the best way to achieve this look atm. Following that the 4 light front end will be fitted along with the blinkers. Some small jobs remain with the front suspension too.
I had been having doubts about going bumperless but I am quite pleased with the look acheived today. Plenty of bodywork to go but the end of stage one will be engineering and rego followed by cruising and the track. Stage two will be later.

PS: Where can I get a decent RS3100 front spoiler, or most likely replica?? The small black one. I ordered one from Capri Clinic back in the day and it isn't close to fitting.

A small update as the list of things to be done shrinks and shrinks .. and occasionally grows a bit more.

Engine is now in and all fits nicely with the alternator, radiator, thermos and gearbox all fitted. Bottom of the car has been sealed up and primed. Fitted my B&M deep tranny pan. Rear end is powder coated and back in aside from the springs. Need to modify the tranny dipstick tube as it doesnt clear the firewall at all well.

Front guards have been repaired with some repair pieces and some fabricated parts. Pretty damn happy with the outcome but still some finer work required down the track. At least they are structurally sound now.

The air filter height is an issue. I currently have a 1 inch spacer after some shennanigans with my accelerator bracket. Most carbies are a 4150 base and this bracket came as a 4500 which was a shock. They don't make a 4150 model so I decided to show it who is boss by grinding the guts out and sliding in an alloy 4150 1 inch spacer. Garry will weld that in then mill it down to lower the height a bit. Need to do some actual measurements but it's touch and go at this time. Need to work out what to do with a reverse scoop as well. My last effort ended ... poorly.

I cut my molded carpet today :( but it seems to look good. I had to trial fit an old scuff plate by chopping it in half to fit under the roll cage and hold the carpet down and I am fairly happy with it. Garry has mounted my fancy billet accelerator pedal and will modify the brake pedal to suit the matching billet pedal attachment.

For those goint wtf at the underneath shots with the white rags: the engine had a cover sheet over it when I took the photos from underneath hence all the white.

Ran out of time today after some absolute bull**** getting the motor into Garry's ute in my driveway. Jobs to come: nicer/shorter alternator bracket spacers, fit shorter rear wheels studs, cut holes for front blinkers and fit, fit front 4 light headlights, refit front xmember and suspension, refit driveshaft, shorten and fit handbrake cables, refit interior, flare front guards, splash some more yellow primer for uniformity, fit carbon fibre RS3100 replica front spolier.

So I did some tinkering with the car today - mostly interior. Garry has installed from the front suspension so it is back and rolling around again. You will see in the pics the front guards aren't on properly yet. I guess it's time for PICTURES!!

PS: No one seems to reply anymore? Is it the V8? The tubs and cage? Too many photos?

As ratta says, just look at how many hits you get after posting, that will show how many are lurking.
As for the car, its so far advanced that I dont feel qualified to make critical comment, doesnt mean I dont appreciate it tho.
