I'm not sure what you're saying there jonsey. If you're talking about rolling diameter, the 15's with 195/45/15 tyres is exactly the same as 155/80/12.
Yeah the gearbox came up well thanks Peter. I used 50/50 mix of chemtech CT14 and turps. Still needed lots of srcubbing, wiping and hosing though. The CT14 attacked the aluminium even after a good rinse so I had to spray on some RP7

Motor and box are resting on front engine mounts and trolley jack respectively. Next is to reposition rear engine mount & refit front swaybar (swaybar should never have come out  .
Then put head back on, set valve clearances, cables and fluids, oil pressure, fire up! etc. The end is in sight.

I had no spark last night so this morning followed my manual and traced it back to a faulty condenser. With that replaced it fired instantly.
 
Clutch and gearbox work great. The custom gearbox crossmember I had bent up worked out sweet.
For some reason the toe on front left wheel is way out. All I did was remove & replace swaybar and drivers side tie rod end so not sure what's happened there???
So just some ethylene glycol, top up gearbox and diff oils, a few cosmetic touches and it's back to business.
 
First impressions new motor are good.  It's not a massive difference in power but def sounds tougher in the low range and will be a lot more fun with 4 on the floor

Great stuff, it's always great when it fires up for the first time.
 
Make sure you get the front end alligned properly.
 
I replaced just the swaybar once without getting a proper allignment and wore out a set of tyres in no time flat.
 
For the sake of $70 bucks or so it's cheap insurance.

Thanks for the comments. There's no way i'm driving it far the way it is.  Luckily bob janes is about 800m from my place. They did an alignment for me not so long ago when the 15's went on.
 
Oh and credit to my 5yo son who was turning the key for me this morning while I checked the spark!

Quick update. I beat a V6 holden ute off the lights to a merge today (he was in merge lane). Not bad for the humble push rod! :D

oh nice. i bet that really pissed him off haha
i would be happy if i could get my Mk1 to do that, as the majority of my mates drive commodores, but I doubt ill get it with the 1300 in it  :P
