Sounds excellent Tex, I think I may go down this path but turbo later on in the year. there seems to be heaps of room in front of the engine or is the photos just deceiving? can you give us a measurement from Radiator support to the front of engine pulleys out of curiousity? cheers and keep up the good work Kieran

Kizza, its 4" at the bottom and 5" at the top from the pulley to the mount face for the radiator(orange bit where double hex bolt is), note my car was 1300 originally so hasnt got the cutout at the bottom for big rad.

Got those short stack bellmouths from ebay, had to modify a little to get them to fit they are designed for webers not dellortos, still there on and look solid.

looks like the video worked too!

Will be off for a tune soon, next week or so, so hopefully see some output figures. I hope its not to optimistic but I'd like about 160rwhp, with gobs more torque than any pinto can deliver.
Will buy a variable cam gear soon for the zorst, but not sure if I can wait to tune it before then. Logic tells me I should wait but......
oh yeah, almost forgot to mention the oil cooler now lives in the front centre, kind of where the number plate should be.

"160rwhp with gobs more torque than any pinto can deliver."

the zetec has 127kW of power @ 7000rpm so thats what 95rwkw with 25% transmission loss. ~127rwhp. Will be interesting to see your dyno sheet.

RS2000 spec pinto = 164Nm @ 3750rpm
ST170 focus zetec = 196Nm @ 5500rpm

I think you will find that a done up 8v will out torque ya. Go old school.

It also depends what rev range that torque (or percentage of) is available.

They may result in si,ilar figures but the Zetec may have it over a broader rev range.

Good point, though I have seen Zetec Dyno sheets before and the torque is amazingly flat, 200 ft lb from 2500 thru to 6100.
I'd like to see a pinto do that.
This was a 1.8 stocker (except induction and exhaust) peaked at 82 rwkw.
it will be interesting, no doubt. good luck to the 8V.

Great job Matt! A credit to you.

Be sure to post up those dyno printouts when you get 'em.

Cheers,
Scott

Well, life isn't meant to be easy.
I had it on the dyno and it ran SHI T, managed 84 rwhp.at about 4k. then went as flat as keira knightley. So turns out I had wired the VCT wrong! So it was not actuating at all. Turns out the output from my computer is not really an output it just goes to ground, so its not exactly gunna pull a solenoid that needs 5volts is it, But why the bloody manual got it all in red with 12V has me farked.

To top it off the fugging thing has dumped some oil, (read oil leak not catastrophic failure) so need to fix and review.
The dyno dude is going racing this weekend so his priority is well... not MY car, its his, Understand its cool. BUT FARK! Any way. Will take it home fix the leak, and tune to the best of my ability's. Might get local dyno time, but no expert to help tune it. No time now, got to get it sorted cant afford any more time of work either. Might have to risk taking it to the streets to see if its running ok.
Still optimistic, rant rave urgh!

Get er on the streets! I would be itching to know how it goes once all fixed!
