I too have replied to your post, And submit the following.
STD ST170 pickup, of kilter and full metal, unlike the 1.8 focus variant its plastic.



Retro ford pickup in place



You should have a got a spare main cap bolt with a welded cap screw on it, a spacer, nut and washer to fit the pickup.






Dont get all baffled on me I have the retro set up on the ST170 block and the ST pickup on the 1.8 for illustration purposes only.
The standard !.8 unit is plastic and not worth publishing.

Hmm the angle of the pick is a little decieving, But the more I look at this Retro ford setup, the less I like it.
Will do some research and see who wants to do a custom sump for me. Likely make two of them to lessen the unit costs.
Or I could bite the bullet and go dry sump it Would be heaps easier to make the sump then.
Its not one of those things you can get wrong without rooting an engine either, much pondering to do....

So Mickas, is your sump pickup the same as this? as this is meant to be a blacktop engine retro ford Motorsport sump kit as supplied from Burtons. What application and use has your sump seen (road or track, klm's?) any issues to note? Plenty of Poms are using the RF gear, Iv'e not heard to much noise on it at all.

I have decided to get my sump girdle modified, it is the only real solution for me. I just need to find someone who is competant and capable. I have a few places to visit, but have decided to prepare a dummy block to bolt the sump girdle to while welding so I am looking at stripping the 1.8 I didn't realise the cams have to come out to lift the head off. Oh well its for the greater good.
I'll post some picks of the 1.8 v's St170 girdles, same same but different applies here, the Quality is outstanding on the ST unit opposed to the 1.8. ST Casting is nearly flawless.

Fun things ford motors, Just when you think you had enough tools in the shed, along comes some ford engine, Had to get all triple square stuff for the pinto now looking at torx bits for the Zetec, Any way, Started pulling the 1.8 down to get a dummy block to mate my sump girdle to when welding it, cam cover already off and torx bits but they look like nuts, Dont know what they call em, for the Cam shafts, I used a double hex 3/8 socket, snug fit no worries, and got the cams out.



All the caps were numbered so should be easy to get back on.



Went to lift the head but got stuck when I came to the head bolts, look like about 10mm Torx (traditional) So I'll try and find one(Hint hint any one local), In the mean time I need to get cutting and shutting on the girdle, Still not sure if its all worth it making a wet pan or got the whole hog and dry sump it.... I'll go down the wet sump path for now.

You'll need a T-55 Torx bit for the head. Make sure you get a decent one as they have a tendancy to snap the cheap ones [:(!]
