yeh I wanted to start with a TX3 1.8ltr turbo engine but yeh,I will go for the 1.8ltr mx5 gear. will need to use the MX5 inlet manifold too so it faces the right way.
Thanks

excellent conversion there.........Im contemplating a BP 1.8 ltr turbo conversion/mx5 6 speed maybe?,Ive got the pinto engine out at the moment of my RS2 and the type 9 is fuc ked so instead of spending money on the new g/box I might just sell off some parts and do the conversion.

Does any one know if B6 g/box,sump and water pump etc fit on the bp engines.

I'm pretty sure the gearbox is the same pattern.
The sump definately won't interchange, the BP is longer than the B6.
Not sure on waterpump.

I've got a complete MX5 wiring loom and am about to start getting the engine ECU part of it out to add to the Escort loom. Not looking forward to it. Will let you know when I make a start to it. Work keeps getting in the way of my play things.

Well i've got a bit more done. Made my aircleaner and fitted the airflow meter to the top of it. All fabricated aluminium with the intake through the rad support panel so the opening is behind the grill. Takes a std Subaru element, so readily available, and fits well as you can see in the pics

Looks great so far. What will you do about the tailshaft just have a custom shaft made? Would be interested to see some pics of the engine mounts you made.

the mx5 1.8 never came turbo and strggles with a turbo upgrade without looking at internals. I have a laser tx3 awd turbo that is awesomely quick so I wouldn't mind doing it.. the problem I thought of is that the aftermarket support for the b series engines is very minimal compared to the likes of an sr20.. but I just couldn't put a nissan in a ford.. I am just gunna save my pennys and go cossie.. why didn't you go a b6t out of an earlier tx3.. its turbo and would mate up to the gearbox perfectly?

The internals of a BP engine are well up to the task of a turbo, as it is the same engine used in the TX3 turbo, or the mazda equivelant (there are subtle differences, but basically the same). There are plenty of turbo conversions around that have more than stood the test of time with very good power output. The after market support is brilliant, you can but anything to suit whatever your needs are. I did the math when I did my conversion, and a Cosworth conversion would cost me far more, so if you think your "gonna save your pennys" doing one your in for a rude shock, as parts for a Cosworth are substancially dearer.]
