People abusing Historic & Trade Plates

OK time to let off a little steam, how come some of the sh** boxes getting around on Club Plates get away with it.
 
I am sure some people join a club just to get their piece of sh** on a club plate.
 
Don't get me started on trade plates, I understand the majority of people do the right thing but how do people get away with driving unroadworthy cars on trade plates or a permit!
 
I have seen a certain Capri from this forum on trade plates and I am sure the owner knows better and I would say that his car wouldn't pass a genuine roadworthy by a qualified inspector.
 
Anyway thats my rant and I feel better for it and hope that I don't offend 90% of the people doing the right thing.

I see a bit of the same, but nothing that looks unroadworthy. Had a senior manager at work keep driving his alfa spider to work on club plates. One of my mates left a stern letter for him, but he didn’t change his ways. In the ACT we still have the older system, not the newer 90 day unlimited system.

I thought club registered cars still had to be roadworthy?

It's amazing how BRAVE some cowards can be HIDING BEHIND TOTAL ANONINIMITY.

As a Licensed RW Inspector for 30 years, as well as before and after, without my RW License, i would have driven hundreds of thousands of kms in Client's unroadworthy cars that most NOVICES LIKE YOU, would consider very dangerous, as I drove them back to the Workshop for RW repairs VERY CAUTIOUSLY, and without ever having the smallest of mishaps in 47 years............we use our own car trailer if it was too bad.
............no not luck.........common sense, which these smarta++ hypocrites obviously are sadly lacking.
 
My 46 year old Capri is Roadworthy to Vic standards in all FACETS OF THE RWC requirement bar a 10c rust hole in one A pillar and small areas surface rust in a few of the usual places, in LESS than 1% of total surface area.
 
Are these gutless wonders, who probably dont know they're driving PIECES OF s+++,  QUALIFIED EXAMINERS to say
ALL T H E I R  cars, regardless of age past 10, meet RWC standards???........I very much doubt it.
It's these nuff-nuffs that pay $20000 to $30000 on a paint job on ANY old or new POS, just to show off in front of everybody, and then finish up on a slab in the mortuary because of extensive rust in body/chassis, and poor lights, brakes, steering, tyres and suspension......... and take out innocent road users at the same time.
 
Wake up princess ! .............there would hardly be ONE CAR PER HUNDRED over 10 years old in all of Australia, that would pass with flying colours, inc NSW that have that farce of yearly RWC.
 
In the last 45 years Ive owned all 20 of my Collectable cars, at least once in most of them , Ive been pulled over by Random RWC Inspection, INC this Capri, with NO ISSUE or warning.  These Police are Qualified RWC Inspectors.
 
I am still a VACC registered SMM and I know a little about RWC since I have been a VicRoads Licenced Tester for over 30 years in my old Workshop, which I am not there any longer as we have younger members in the Family to take up the Practise in our new workshop, since the License costs run into MANY $$thousands$$ these days with all the study, and Exams and Specialized equipment.
 
So stick that in your fuel tank and go twice as fast ! 
 
Must lead a sad boring life to go off in a hail of BS without knowing what theyre talking about.

Not sure of other states, but in Victoria, you can drive on "Red Club Plates" 24/7 exactly like any other car, with
the proviso you fill in log book every day you drive it and do not exceed the 45 or 90 days you registered for.
So if your works manager with his Alfa was in Victoria, he was entirely within his rights.

Regarding Historic plates, yep I've seen a few absolute bombs, and others that are nothing collectable or historic, just old and it seems clear the owner isn't following the intention of the historic plate system.

Maybe, if I was terribly drunk and stoned, I'd lean a little his way if they were immaculate showroom Barinas, but they are the opposite to immaculate, and get used as a "daily". Even when originally new, I could not find one redeeming feature in their appearance or style......yuk!

Historic vehicle registration schemes are not consistent across the states.
 
If anyone notices usage that does appear to fit their understanding of their states scheme, they should contact the appropriate managing body for their state.
Here in the ACT, it is the Council of ACT Motor Clubs (CRS Registrar : Dave Rogers).
 
Any and all currently registered vehicles must be in a roadworthy condition - nothing to do with historic rego conditions.
 
I too have seen usage/modifications that do not seem to meet the intent of the scheme.

I’d like to put my Capri on club rego here in NSW. I don’t know how Capri club rego here works. All I know is to join I need to send a Cheque( don’t have a Cheque book) and fax my info through ( don’t have s fax). So it seems a bit hard and outdated our Capri club of NSW. Do you require a road worthy certificate for club rego? I would hope so and all my cars would pass or firstly I wouldn’t drive them and secondly no insurance would be paid if after an accident,even a not at fault accident it was proved the car was faulty.

Fact is, ANY vehicle, regardless of age, or REGISTRATION status, can be SUSPENDED or CANCELLED
Wiggy, go online to the website for NSW MOTOR REGISTRATION , and if it's anything like ours in VIC, there'll be links taking you to info to get HISTORIC Club Plate "permits"........you need to join an approved CLUB first and foremost.
.Vicroads advised me that this is not a " registration" but a  "PERMIT" as long as it is connected to a fully paid Club Membership..........semantics no doubt to cover up who knows what

No in NSW if the club is prepared to make a declaration that the car is roadworthy.
A lot of clubs don't want that responsibility, so require their members to get a roadworthy from an authorised mechanic. 

OK I don't know who Russ_W is, but, My 2cents, you obvioulsy intend to keep the car.  You are a member of at least one car club, you are able to issue a RWC and have your car registered under the Club Permit Scheme.  I cannot see why it appears regularly on weekend shows with Trade Plates after like 5 years of ownership.  
 
Now regarding the classic/historic cars there are quite a few people using the scheme as part time rego, for say the wife that works 2 or 3 days a week, just get her a VP or EB Falcon, 92 Skyline etc and away you go $120 a year instead of $740, even factoring in your $40-$50 a year club reg you are way in front.  Of course this is not what the scheme is designed for, but every good initiative is always abused.  At least Vicorads are getting rid of the ridiculous Scrutineering method and going with a RWC at first registration.

YES to roadworthy inspection IN VICTORIA...............must go thru same test as if it's a regular car with regular regio, plus be a paid up member of a club endorsed by the State authorities, but NSW has YEARLY RW inspections for ALL cars and trucks, buses and taxis, last time I checked , which is a few years ago. Please update me either way you guys in NSW.......cheers
 
WE used to be like NSW, but it was stopped due to corrupt Certificates.
As perpetraitors are found out by honest RWC Inspectors, they loose their license for life, plus face
a High Court Judge if there were injuries or death caused by their criminal "turn-a-blind-eye" practises

Not being a regular on the show scene, or a club member makes this harder to follow.
 
If all of the above is accurate, BV's car is the one regularly on trade plates, at shows, likely to have long ownership etc. 2 more cents, I agree, long term, regular  trade plate useage probably doesn't pass the pub test, especially when an individual is in the unique position of being a tester etc, and may be worse than pushing the boundaries of historic plate abuse.
 
I don't mind an unrestored car though, patina is a challenge if you can combine it with a fully functioning car that's safe and legal.
 
For the record, my 1600 is fully registered (mainly because it has personalised plates, which were all the rage decades ago), and I cant see the reason of letting them go for historic rego. And its fully insured with Shannons.
Is it roadworthy? I'd like to think so, everything works, but there's always something that could do with replacing.
Is it safe, that's a relative question.

Who are you with and I think we all need to get out our insurance and adjust accordingly because the sounds of it they might be going up a tad. We I’ll never catch the falcons or Toranas but it does sound positive.

Insured value vs real value is a hot topic, maybe another thread subject.
 
Anyway I thinks its a bit funny how the original poster Russ didn't even mention BEEVEE name in the first post, he just said "a certain Capri of this Forum with trade plates".
 
Now Beevee must be thinking he is guilty of as OP said "abusing Historic and Trade Plates" as he has gone to a rather long winded response with for some reason lots of ................... in between comments and using capitals.

Mines insured at $48000 with Shannon’s and window replacement as well. I will say it is in near perfect nick so I think they should be insured for that easily. Would still keep the wreck if I needed to use it. I don’t know about a car needing recon though insurance wouldn’t pay and your only paying more than it’s real value every year till it’s not paid when required. Insure it for $90000 and crash it you won’t get paid.

A person engaged in the business of modifying, repairing or altering vehicles
The above GIM / trade plate holder or a person acting on his/her behalf may use the vehicle on a road or road related area under any of the following circumstances, to:

• drive the vehicle to any premises to be modified, repaired or altered
• drive it during the process of modification, repair or alteration
• return it to its owner after modification, repair or alteration

 
A person providing a service of inspecting and checking vehicles for mechanical condition and efficiency
The above GIM / trade plate holder or a person acting on his/her behalf may use the vehicle on a road or road related area under any of the following circumstances to:

• drive the vehicle to any premises to be altered, modified or repaired
• drive it during the process of alteration, modification or repair
• return it to its owner after alteration, modification of repair.

 
I'm not having a go here, just stating the plain facts, as it relates to vehicle usage on Victorian roads. We ALL need to comply with these rules/laws, like it, or not.
