205s on 5.5" rims are technically unroadworthy. For safety, I'd run Tubes inside especially if rims arent "safety rims"......
.....girls & boys, keep in mind Insurance Coys will find any excuse NOT to pay out in the event of a claim
.....which is the last thing you need if ur covered for $10,000 to $100,000 write off value and it's a "total WO"

According to what source? I've seen manufacturers own specs say 205s are OK on a 5.5" rim, and on that basis I ran some on a set of Volantes for years.

According to VicRoads Regs & Ford,  GTV6 Capri were allowed a maximum of 175x13 tyres and max of 5" wide rims. Other 4 cyl models from 1969-1972 had to comply with smaller widths.
The VicRoads regs allow a maximum of 20mm increase meaning 195x13 on 6" rims is the max limit
As my Vic Roads Regs are not 2017, I will check with them and report back.
I personally am running 205x13 on 7" 12 slotters, so I'm not telling anyone what they should do.  But at least they look right and 205 is correct for 7" rims.
I'm not at risk with any insurance claim, as I got my Insurance to annotate my wheels & tyres on the Insurance Disclosure Statement, which they accepted.
Interstate laws may be different; pays to check with ur local Regio Authority or Roadworthy garage.
Certified Roads Authority "Engineer Certificate" may be able to over-ride any of the above.
I'll also check for 155 on 7" rims which sounds un-roadworthy & very dangerous to me (apart from looking YUK!)

Flighter, were any of those manufacturers Ford Australia for Capri GTV6 up to 1972 ?

Nope, but then I wasn't aware that your statement was aimed at a specific model and year; just sounded to me like 205s on a 5.5" rim was a no-no in general.

your rims will be fine JR, its all in VSB14 section LS.

Width wise the rear are not an issue.  On the front 5.5in is fine, with correct offset will not rub on strut and will stay within guards.  6in rims would either rub the strut or the outer wall would sit outside of the guard lip depending on offset.

the thread we're in is GTV6 Capri projects, so I kept the conversation re tyres & rims to this thread.

Yeah, I gathered that's what you were getting at by your last question. Like I said, the comment sounded generic to me.

Great progress, paint looks good, love the colour would like to see it in the flesh. I think a black interior works best with a yellow body but I'm bias as thats what my RS is
Keep the pics coming.
Cheers Drew

Paint going on slowly but surely, apparently its a swine to get to cover, but if you use a solid orange base coat rather than grey its gets easier

looks great.
Black interior would look pretty original, but I think white would take it up a notch
(i'm biased too, with a white interior in mine)
Its going to be another stunning car.
