Re-Birth of Boris

Hi all
Thought its about time I put up the rebuild of my mk1 on here.
Bought from a granny, in full granny spec the cars standard 1300, fairly tidy, few dings here and there, rust in heater bubble and rear wheel well, few vey small holes in floorpans, bot floor etc
Lovely old lady and her hubby had had it from new and called it Boris so its sort of stuck, (my mk2s called Brenda!) when Ipicked it up and drove it the 50 k trip home it would only do 30kph so i just sat at 30 with my pedal to the metal, after 5 minutes it coughed and farted and blew out pile of smoke, then it started moving, the speedo needle was going mental as it had never been above 30!
The old dear had only driven it in the day, so when i got it home and played with everything, and tried the lights it seriously took 2 or 3 mins for them to come on!

Plan for the car is 1600, twin choke, extractors, etc. Im a pomme so 13" wheels, lowered, clean straight bodywork prob original colour (father in laws an awesome oldschool spray painter, maybe of interest he's always keen for foriegners and does an awesome job), or like the look of bionic blue.
Doing it on a mega budget as moneys fairly tight with a young family etc, so itll be fairly basic spec but a good standard to add too in the future.
Struggling to put pics on here, so if anyone can give it me in the most basic way how to resize or what site to use etc it would be great, dont understand all thi 250kb thingy and how to achieve it

It sounds like a great start Graham. The drivevhome story is classic :D
Is the car auto or manual, 2 or 4 door? If you're looking at dragway 13's be sure to test fit because some have bad offset.
I went down the 1600 route with my MK1 1300 and I'm more than happy now. They are a good motor for an escort with standard brakes and susp. Lots of torque if a little work is done.
Try creating an account with photobucket for your pics. It's the easiest way to get started.

    Hi Mate,

Sounds like a great base to start from.

To get the pics up you need to download image resizer (http://imageresizer.codeplex.com/)

    Cheers

Thanks to all for advice loading pics on, used paint to resize worked well!
Okay now im up with modern technology, cars going to be 1600, extractors 2" system, twin choke carb, keeping the 4 speed, got a 5 speed sierra but really dont want to hack the tunnel around. Slammed down 2" lowering blocks, lowered front springs, uprated bushes throughout, round headlight conv, quarte bumpers, towbar removed. Deep dish wheel, the missus in an awesome sewer (that doesnt sound good, i mean shes awesome on sewing stuff), so is gonna re do door cards, seats, etc and recover dashtop with material to give flocked look.
Outside new paint, standard colour or bionic, remove chrome trims, bullet mirrors. 13" bathursts on it at the mo, but got 13x7 minilite types (think they too wide with standard arches, and offset they have, or lotus steels.
Will take more pics now! currently semi stripped, getting ready for paint!

Dang, it has all the accessories! It looks to be a very honest car. I like the original colour, the paint still has a gleam to it. Your mates back in the uk will be very envious :D Nice score, i look forward to seeing your progress.

It's just a suggestion, but keep the side strips if you can. I kept mine on and it really lends to the heritage of the car. You can see it's an original, well looked after classic, not something that's been stripped back and resprayed (usually what happens to rust buckets). just my 5c

Yes its quite tidy, although the granny had carried out some of her own "repairs" after her hubby passed on. Such as filling the bottom of the wing with no nails and painting it with house paint after someone drove into it!, bless her!
A mate spotted it from a roof top he was working on, else where it was no one would have seen it.
Part of me wanted to leave it looking the same but cossie it, but bodywork was starting to get tired.
    Will add more pics tomorrow

I'm confused - the car has WA plates but you are in NSW?

If in WA I recommend keeping the original retro number plates.  Although they now make these available at a higher fee as a form of personalised plate in WA, you would probably get brand spanking new ones for virtually nothing seeing they would be direct replacements.

Nice find.  Good luck with it.

Well spotted flighter, yes I moved to NSW 18 months ago took the mk1 with me, left in on WA rego (yeah i know im bad, but its so cheap!) but now gonna move back there so it all worked out good in the end!
Original plates were faded really bad, went in to licensing bought replacements only about $30 makes big difference.
Side stripes had to go i quite liked the look, apart from the fact the old dear had araldited them on!

Hi mate. I have those front struts out now and your welcome to them complete if you want. They have almost new peddars springs and insert but won't lower it by anywhere near what you're planning for the back.
I'll probably be down in Port week after next, so if you won't to catch up just drop me a PM.
    Cheers,
    Cam

Tar's for getting there. Dirt's for racing!
