Mk2 Escort turbo engine management

Hi Fellas,

I am restarting a project that I have had on hold for nearly 20 years.

The car has a 2 litre Escort engine which I successfully turbo charged using the draw thru system. I was in the process of re-engineering to direct injection EFI (with the turbo) before I got distracted with life. [8~2]

Can anyone recommend which engine management system would be good to start with? I am willing to experiment. I have my eye on a Holden JB Camira 2 litre engine management computer as a possibility. Obviously will need to be programmable.

    Haltec?
Mate used one on his supercharged corolla. He knew nothing about electronics when he started. Helped him out with some wiring, looked really good. He can play around with the map on his laptop and gets real time data. Only downside to them is the cost.

    Hi Peter,

You need to determine what you need from the Engine Management before a solution can be recommended. If its a toy and your not chasing serious features the Camira Delco unit might be suitable. It really depends on what you will use it for and what you need from it.

    Cheers,

    Phil.

    Hi Fellas,

    Thanks for your comments.

The Haltec and Motec options are most probably the best, however the prices are not an option. [V]

The Camira option will most probably be too limited and I can see a problem to re-engineer, but still thinking.....

Several years ago I think I heard of a company at Silverwater in Sydney who also manufactured engine management systems. Memory the company was EMS ? However I really can't be sure if this was correct, or if they are still trading.

If I can get it going within the next 20 years [}:)] the car will be for quick street use (no track or racing).

i can recommend ems as a lot of offroad guys use them. they are very easy to setup if you have a little electrical knowlodge. i have a motorsports 4860 in my offroad race buggy basicly it was wire up load base map cheak timing on engine and then fire up engine. i have a 4age so map was easy i still have to dyno and tune but it was easy.

as for price they will set you back about $1500ish. the guys at ems will help as much as they can.

also they are in Sydney so any drama just drop in and they will sort it.

    web site is http://www.fuel-injection.com/frameindex.htm

I run a dyno in Adelaide... and all the above mentioned ECU's will work fine. My preference for a long time, based on value for money and tuneability is a Haltech by a long shot. I've used the new Platinum series Sprint 500 on a few lately... how can you beat this for value at $950 ( EBAY traders). In a word "fantastic". There are a couple I wouldn't use on my worst enemies car ( PM me if you want to know which ones...)

    Cheers Mike
PS I'm doing a Pinto turbo at the moment with a Sprint 500 , T28 Garret and a modified TR Magna dual Hall pickup dizzy with wasted spark coilpacks.

    Thanks Fellas,

I have checked out the Haltech website. Very hard to improve on these products. I though the prices would be much higher.
I will also check out the Megasquirt product and make a decision when the time comes.

Currently in the early stages of reassembling the bottom end with all the wonderful brand new parts I purchased all those years ago in 1990. Lot's of fun!

I am getting itchy feet to drive the car again.
